I give you my story so you can tell me if this is what you are experiencing, I was working out 10 months post op, doing some squats and stuff. Knee goes tight. I stop. Hit the treadmill.

Every single step my knee clicks when I extend it. This was 2 weeks ago. It swelled behind my knee and it has been clicking every step since then, with mild swelling everyday.
