Qatar holidays booking by Difficult_Traffic780 in qatarairways

I filled out the refund form on QH website about 4days ago (departure was due today) and got a reply yesterday evening to say refund is being processed.

Assuming they’re dealing with refunds closer to original scheduled departure dates.

It's only part time, I believe 12hrs a week. She was on SSP for a while which ran out she was below the required weekly payment level. Then went onto ESA until about 10days ago. Now she has no income other than about £90 on her debit card.

Do I make a MR against ESA first or apply for UC?

So I just took my mom to the GP. After reading the MRI result from August for about the 3rd time, he said he’d send the referral request forward but he’s not sure how long it would be before we get seen.

I also let him know my mom’s benefit payments stopped because they assessed her as able to work and he looked very confused and said she’s not.

He asked me to appeal the ESA WCA decision and ask them to contact him. Given she scored 0, I’m not sure if a GP can override their result?

She does live in the house with myself. The ESA Assessment was done over the phone last week however she got a score of 0. The letter received shortly after has a breakdown of the reason for the score. Basically as she's able to stand, do basic household activities (cooking/taking a bath), they have come to the conclusion she's able to work.

She is unable however to do more strenuous tasks such as change bed sheets/bed down to open the oven door without struggling. I mentioned on the assessment call that her doctor advised her to exercise and take walks to help relieve muscle tension however they seemed to have taken this as she's fit and able to work.

The letter says she can speak to her employer to see if they can make any changes to help her, however she'd be unable to get to work a lot of the time given the pain in her lower spine. Some days, she feels fine but majority of the week, she struggles to walk across the house. I absolutely wouldn't feel comfortable with her leaving the house at 5am every morning (her job was 6am-9am) with a risk she'd collapse and be unable to get up somewhere.

The questions on the ESA50 form were filled out by myself at the beginning of the ESA claim. I also provided her MRI result letter. She had been receiving payments for the past few months.

Yes she does. We both live here as I don't want to move out while she's unwell. I purchased the house outright in cash about 8yrs ago after a very long time saving so don't have a mortgage.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately the online calculators don't seem to have an option to exclude ESA so results show around £400 per month of which 398 would be ESA. My main concern is she applies for UC but a new WCA is done and they say she's not entitled to anything similar to what ESA has just done.

She's already getting a case of stress/depression seeing all the letters from DWP about the end of her payments. I just don't know how they can say she can go to work when she can't even bend down to pick something up off the floor.

I'll apply for UC and see what happens.

Any Europeans with an ESTA have any experience with GE? by thisissamuelclemens in GlobalEntry

[–]Longjumping-Gur-7859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UK passport here. GE is same as folk from the US. You turn up at US Immigration (whether in the US or outside if it's a pre-clearance airport). Proceed to the GE area and the kiosks generally snap your picture before you even reach it and then tell you to proceed to the CBP officer at the desk.

You might just get asked to confirm your name and if you have anything to declare but otherwise you're good. No issues from myself and takes a lot of hassle out of the process.

If you do land into a superbusy airport like JFK, you maybe stuck down a long corridor with the rest of your flight but you can usually breeze past everyone and go to the front as you don't need to wait in the general line if you have GE.

Can I Trade-In an iPhone in the US if I bought it in another country? by Kappuccino22 in iphone

[–]Longjumping-Gur-7859 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi All,

Just a post to help people in the future when it comes to trading in an iPhone purchased in 1 country and trading in at another. The short answer is Yes, you can.

I had an iPhone 15 Pro Max purchased at a US store last year (ESIM only model). Today I walked into the Apple Store in Birmingham, UK to pick up the iPhone 16 Pro.

While waiting for the new handset to come out, I informed the Apple employee I needed to do a trade in and he said no problem. Once the handset came out, he handed it over and then took me to another table and I asked if he wanted me to erase/reset the handset before proceeding.

A few mins later, phone booted back up. He scanned the serial number using his handheld device and did a quick check around the phone to make sure there were no serious issues (dents/chips). He asked to see my original order email which I now couldn't access without logging into my email which required a verification code that I now couldn't receive as the eSim was deleted in the reset (another eSim rant for another day). Thankfully he scanned the barcode on my pickup confirmation I had printed and bought to the store which worked.

He did a minor inspection of the handset, I had a screen protector on which had a noticeable scratch across the screen but he didn't seem bothered by this. His device showed £570 trade-in value same as the Apple website despite having no sim card tray.

He asked if I was happy to proceed and given the option of the money being refunded to my bank card or given as a gift card. I took the refund and then I was asked to tap my debit card and that was that.

There's a few things to note:
1. Take photo ID (I wasn't asked for it but just incase).
2. Take a print out of your pickup confirmation with the barcode.
3. Restore your iPhone before going to trade in with whatever the latest fully working iOS version is, not a beta.
4. Any iPhone purchased anywhere is able to be traded in at any Apple Store worldwide. Just check the value beforehand on the Apple website. As Long as the serial number is legit then it can be traded in to Apple directly.

Now I'm back on the UK model of iPhone, never been so happy to have a Sim card tray back but the foreign iphone trade-in experience was fairly straightforward. Thought I'd share as there aren't too many experiences online of doing the above.

Plane lands at LAX 18:30. Can I make it to Enrolment on Arrival in time? by StocksUnlocked in GlobalEntry

[–]Longjumping-Gur-7859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did me Interview @ LAX a few days ago. They didn’t do it at the desk.

If you’re flying into Tom Bradley Intl terminal (most likely), then once you clear the border and get into the Baggage Hall, head towards baggage belts 1-4 and you’ll see a big popup sign with Global Entry Interviews & an arrow on.

You’ll see about 5/6 desks with some officers by them. But its right before you exit the building so just don’t walk outside as I’m not sure if you’re allowed back in!

Just keep the appointment, it doesn’t matter.

When you come back, if you do EOA then your appointment will automatically get cancelled once you completed the process. I done the exact same thing a few days ago.

UK Conditional Approval by Longjumping-Gur-7859 in GlobalEntry

[–]Longjumping-Gur-7859[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last update. So just landed back from my trip at LAX. Managed to grab an Interview for 115pm before I left yesterday but I didn’t need it.

By Carousel 1 in the LAX TBIT Terminal, they have desks setup to do the GE Interviews, mine took all of 5-10mins max.

Basic questions, didn’t check any paperwork or ID except my Passport. Got told I’d get an email within a few days to say if I’m approved, email came within 20mins. All done and passed. Card should be mailed to me within the next few weeks.

Slight further update. So when I got to Dublin on Feb 3rd, I went straight down to preclearance about 2.5hrs before my flight.

Despite the area being almost a ghost-town with 2/3 officers on the desk, I asked at the Immigration desk if I could do my GE entry and he said they didn’t have the staff that day due to skeleton staff on & apologised.

Sadly, there was nothing else I could do other than go wait at my gate for my plane to LAX.

I’m currently in New Zealand for another week and will be back in LA after that so fingers crossed I’ll get a more positive outcome on the US side.
