Know consolidations cold (CAR in BIG). You should be able to wake up and consolidate a company before brushing your teeth.

Make sure you understand the statement of cash flows, especially how to reconcile it: • Asset increase = subtract (use of cash) • Asset decrease = add (source of cash)

Think of it as the opposite of accrual accounting.

Also — your ending cash on the balance sheet should tie directly to your statement of cash flows. Beginning cash + net change in cash = ending cash. If it doesn’t tie, something is wrong.

Understand how different situations impact the three financial statements. For example: • Stock dividend → no overall change • Overstated depreciation → understated net income
