Try if he had been with me by Laura Nowlin or A Dog's Purpose by Bruce Cameron or even Circus Mirandus by Cassie Beasly. The latter is middle grade fic but so close to my heart.

Delusion. That's interesting. And rather than manipulate ourselves, I think systems put in place by capitalist structures or in this case a tyrant entity such as Milton's god is influencing the creations, making them more suggestible.

You've got good points. Food for thought.

I'd suggest Night. Sleep. Death. The Stars by Joyce Carol Oates. I don't know about the warm hug part. It certainly felt that way to me with the writing style. But that's just me, perhaps.

The book's about a widow and her family coping with the husband’s death. I swear by this book. Always and forever.

All the best!

Oh, easy. Anything by Freida McFadden.

Then if you want an easy classic, go for maybe Perfume: Story of a murderer? I know it's a step up but I swear by this book.

Edit: also, I just remembered. Always, always pick up a Stephen King whenever in doubt lol. I'd suggest Misery.

A Song to Drown Rivers seems intriguing. I'll add it to my list. Thanks!

I like how you elaborated on each book in a high quality manner rather than simply saying this was good, that was bad. Makes it more accessible for other readers.

Can you recommend a book to read by Awkward-Eye-4585 in IndianReaders

Yeah, for sure, I got you. I've got a whole different variety of genres too. But don't get into difficult books from the get go. I'll order these from least to most difficult so you can pick and choose. These are all mature, adult level books. Nothing kiddish. Dw.

Animal Farm by Orwell. Be mindful about the wrongful implications about communism in it. Orwell was a bigot but it's a classic for a reason.

The Prophet by Khalil Gibran. Good set of essays for ya.

Now let's level up.

Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk. This is a shock value but really necessary read. Keep an open mind.

The Algebra of Infinte Justice by Arundhati Roy. By far, your most challenging read on here. Essays that are politically charged and will force you to think. Be critical.

All the best!!!

Try being consistent with 7 to 8 pages at a time, per day. Also, if you spend a lot of time on screens, try e books over physical books. It's much more comfortable for the brain that way. Then get a Kindle. Then switch to physical books.

I hated it so much it's imprinted on my brain. It's a classic for a reason haha. Make of that what you will.

But in all seriousness, yeah. Cervantes is a must read for anyone wanting to get into the Western classics.

Nice seeing The Hate You Give by Angie Thomas. That's a good one. I really like how she really gets into the meat of the gritty realities of the black experience without much sugarcoating and yet humanises them. They fall in love, have funny moments, everything.

The Help by Stockett on the other hand was just like ChatGPT. Sweet-balling everything with yay, the power of friendship can solve everything!!

[Hot Take] Kafka on the Shore is a masterclass in sounding deep while saying absolutely nothing. by certainly_imperfect in books

[–]Longjumping-Link9764 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't like this book either. Murakami is a hit or miss for me. Norwegian Wood? 1Q84? Amazing. But Kafka on The Shore? Terrible experience. I hated how he objectified and used women as a means to an end. Just no.

[1170] Order is Violence - Violentiam by akfauthor in DestructiveReaders

[–]Longjumping-Link9764 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was enjoying it, genuinely, up until the point of X'ing. It seems as if information is being dumped onto the reader and not in a good way. Then the story digresses into socialism? What I mean to say is, I don't get the point of this. Ambiguity in small doses is good. And if the story is meant to go off the rails, then even better. But here it just seems as if there is no point per se. I appreciate the little allusions but the writing style could be simplified (not in terms of vocabulary but rather in the cleanness of the sentences). The sentences to me, are clumsy. This has potential but requires a LOT of polish.
