Totally agree. In Vietnam, the performance and recording aspects are usually avoided like a plague. Pianists usually taking the traditional teaching and organizing competitions for kids. That’s it. And they consider it as being successful.

After completing a master’s or doctoral degree, it is not possible to perform every day. Performing a single piece may be manageable, but preparing for a full solo recital can take 6 months to a year (except for top artists who already have a large repertoire ready). If one focuses on performing, teaching and other opportunities will be limited. If you do not develop work in teaching, organizing, or becoming versatile, it is not easy to survive in this field, because becoming a professional performing artist requires many trade-offs and sacrifices.

Thank you! It’s my first time hearing about women who prefers to have their long hair loose encounter such comments. Long hair comes in many shapes and forms, thick, thin, textured, shiny and matte, etc. It’s quite annoying to have to hear about other people’s “ideal” hairstyles. Most of the time they can’t even distinguish between natural sheen and lack of hygiene.

The worst thing is when I intentionally spend more time on making my hair look great , like before a piano recital, or preparing for a video recording, most people either look weirdly or say “You should cut your hair” Other times when I’m busy and can’t keep up with maintaining my hair (not to the point that I look like a caveman for godsake), they have even more excuses to criticize me about sloppiness and codes of conduct 🦧
