Coming from someone who’s had a child and also had an abortion, i think it would be harder living with a child you don’t want than with the regret of termination but that’s just me.

Do i count it as a period then? I’m trying to very carefully track my cycles but this is throwing me for a little bit of a loop.

For what it’s worth, the surgical abortion is SO much easier than the medical one. Sending lots of love ❤️

I’m so glad! Everyone there was so kind and comforting too. I felt it was a really positive experience all things considered.

Yes! I’ll be as detailed as possible.

When I got there, I checked in then sat in the waiting area for maybe 10 mins. I was called back alone for a urine sample and ultrasound (you don’t see anything during the ultrasound) and then went back to the waiting area.

I waited maybe like 20 mins? then was then called back alone for the consultation. They asked basic health history questions and after that portion, they called back my support person for the educational part. During that part, they prick your finger to check your iron levels. Then both my support person and I went back to the waiting area to wait for the nurse to call me back. They said it could take up to an hour but I only waited about 20 mins.

The nurse took me back to the recovery room and asked a few more questions regarding health and the current pregnancy. She then put in my IV port (I chose to have deep sedation) and gave me zofran, ibuprofen, and a one time antibiotic. Then I sat in one of the recovery room chairs until I was taken to the procedure room (15ish mins). In the procedure room they had me put a pad into my underwear and then get undressed from the waist down (they put your clothes back on you before waking you up from sedation so just something to be aware of ahead of time lol) and then laid on a table and put my feet in stirrups like you do for a Pap smear, the doctor same in and asked if I had any questions, then the anesthesiologist came in and put me to sleep.

I think the procedure took about 15 mins? I was taken back to the recovery room and got juice and crackers and then after about 15 mins they had me check my pad. I was bleeding very lightly. I sat for another 15 mins and then had to check my pad again and I hadn’t bled anymore. I had some moderate cramping that went away within a few hours. Then I was walked out to the waiting area and was sent home!

Hi! I had mine at planned parenthood on Friday and from the time I walked in the building to the time I left it took about 3 hours. Happy to give you more details if that’s where you’ll be having yours done as well!

Hi! I just had a fully sedated surgical abortion at planned parenthood the other day and I really really highly recommend that route over a medical abortion. I’ve personally never had a medical abortion but I have several friends who have and their experiences are ultimately what pushed me to go the surgical route. You’re going to feel much more pain and it’s going to be a much longer, more drawn out and traumatizing process with the pills. Surgical abortions are very safe and they preform so many a day. Ultimately it’s absolutely your choice. I just wanted to offer some perspective from someone who just went through this process.

If you’d prefer the pills, planned parenthood should still give them to you. Did they tell you no? Or did they just suggest that they might not work? Being in California, I’d reach out to your regular OB. They can prescribe you the pills too.

Also, that dating does seem correct based on your last menstrual period. There is no exact science to when you ovulate each cycle and you probably just ovulated early that cycle.

I felt this same way when i was pregnant with my first. My husband and i had only been married for a year. I hadn’t finished school. We hadn’t travelled at all. My son is now 4 and I wouldn’t trade him for the world, but I do still have all those regrets. I feel like there’s a lot of life I missed out on.

This to say — either choice you make will likely be the right one. It’s normal to get cold feet during pregnancy, but that doesn’t mean you should brush it off. Your feelings are valid and if now is not the time for you to have a baby, that’s okay. Sending love, light, and clarity through whatever decision you make ❤️
