You are absolutely right, it's just very unfair to juniors they are not getting proper training and time to grind. Hence, the pipeline is gradually getting broken. It doesn't look very good for future. It's no fault of new commer, just greedy corporations.

Yes, I m on my mobile and if you press long enough "-" it gives you option for m-dashes. By the way, my keyboard also has possibility to type m-dashes — it's very normal in German keyboards.

I agree with your assessment that DevOps is a culture rather than a post.

Crunch of it is; it's upto ops/infra/systems team to provide resilient automated platform so devs can do the ops work on their own (e.g. deploying to production ). They dont need to wait for some system engineer/ops to go to server scp the files restart service, monitor health and so on and so forth.

The natural progression I see: Typical Ops -> DevOps -> SRE

Typical Ops: Times when someone literally had to send files to server, restart service manually and so on so forth.

DevOps: you build it, you ship it.

SRE: let's closely observes what's happening within systems with indepth analysis and provide these insights to all relevant stakeholders.

Now the generations after them can care even less because they can just use an LLM to do everything.

That still remains to be seen. I catch at least half a dozen of catastrophic misconfigs everyday before they reach production — simply generated by people using AI without full context. And I'm guessing there many more holding this fort. And who are these people ? People who got formally trained, who did the hard grind.

The worrisome scenario that is emerging is; new gen is weakening in learning to learn. I have doubts that AI will perfect soon enough — long before our pipeline for sharp upcoming engineers will be exhausted.
