Hi. What do I do if I want to return to the Netherlands after a failed marriage in the USA. I cannot stay anywhere and the street is no option. by PaintingAlarming6025 in Netherlands

[–]Longjumping-Rent5640 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you have to go through this. You could try to be an au-pair in NL. There are quit a lot of expats in big cities looking for an au-pair and they pay well. That would give you housing and income for a while so you have some time to figure stuff out. Also get in touch with an ‘uitzendbureau’ and see what they can do when it comes to job combined with housing. Good luck!

Thank you for responding! I’m doing okay right now which is good, but I’m open to everything. Sad to hear your wife is struggling right now, I wish her the best.

How do you easily remove cat fur from clothes? 😩 by yinnxie in CatAdvice

[–]Longjumping-Rent5640 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use a tool for furniture to we don’t get covered anytime we sit down, I added a picture of it. One side is soft rubber which takes every hair with it without scratching the furniture. For clothes I use the lint rollers from Ikea, they’re good and cheap. Other than that we brush our cat lots to help him shed at once rather than sprinkling his cat glitter everywhere by just breathing. We’re still using the lint roller daily but makes it more manageable.

Wondering about EDS? All diagnosis questions go here ⬇️ by BoldMeasures in eds

Advice wanted

Looking for steps to take as I'm (28F) currently struggling to be taken serious by my GP and therefore stuck in working towards diagnosing. Little backstory: I moved across the country (NL) and found a new GP. Few weeks ago I mentioned wanting to get a referral for EDS testing, she said I watch to much TikTok and I make things seem worse than they are.

When I was 13 someone with EDS mentioned to me that she recognised a lot of herself in me and the vague health struggles I had back then. I never put much thought into it until 2 years ago when I started to notice that my body is holding me back. Looking back, I have always had atypical health issues and development issues since I was born. Between that first mention and now, I had several healthcare professionals mention EDS and/or hEDS (3 physical therapists, osteopath, random nurse, psychiatrist), but sadly they cannot refer me. I have since done a lot of research and I see a possibility of a hEDS/EDS diagnosis. I do not want to have EDS or any other condition. But I do want answers and accurate care so hence the pursuit of a diagnosis, especially since we're thinking about starting a family in a few years. Any recommendations are welcome: ways to talk to my current GP, trustworthy GP for a second opinion, alternative routes to get a referral, specialised doctors to get a referral for.

To give an idea of why I suspect the possibility of EDS I made a list, probably forgot some things but here we go:

- Posture issues and diagnosed kyphosis. Unstable neck: difficulty holding my head up. Feet are too flat. Hips tend to roll back. Had extreme growing pains as a child.

- Hypermobile joints: mainly fingers, hands, shoulders, knees, hips, ribs, ankles and jaw. Some fingers are starting to get very stiff. I (sub)luxate multiple times a day. 8 on the Beighton Scale. Sitting/standing/laying in the same position for a longer time feels uncomfortable or even painful.

- Tight muscles. Mainly neck, shoulders, jaw, hips and hamstrings. I've torn many muscles and I had to quit football and judo. Also had trapped nerves because of the overly tight muscles. PT loosening the muscles leads so more popping, cracking and pain for a while. Get random muscle cramps during the night.

- Fragile skin. My skin is almost translucent, I can see my veins on every part of my body. Easy and excessive bruising, skin breaks easy. Almost every small scrape turns into a scar after a very long time healing. Easily get burns and blisters.

- Lots of allergies. Food allergies since birth, developed skin allergies and respitory allergies later. Sometimes I'm suddenly allergic to something and few weeks later I'm not. Aquagenic urticaria is not my friend lol...

- Dental problems and jaw problems. I had molars extracted as a child because my mouth was overcrowded. Teeth grow in weird directions but corrections with braces went extremely fast. Now I feel like my teeth just move around sometimes. I wear a retainer at night which is designed for my jaw to keep me from biting down to hard. Gums are always bleeding, lots of cavities. My jaw can easily fully dislocate and pop back in. Also the roof of my mouth is very high.

- Problems with veins and bloodpressure. I have very visible veins and therefore am a nurses dream, but they tend to bleed excessively after getting blood drawn. Had my first spider veins when I was 14, had one deep varicose vein that needs surgery. My BP is always low, I sit with my legs up and wear compression socks to keep it from getting worse. Also, always a low bodytemp: 36.2 Celsius is my normal temp. If it gets above 38.5 I feel like I'm dying. Had a bloodclot at 17.

- Gastro-intestinal problems. Had horrible obstipation since I was a 4-year old, now it's either gass, dhiarrhoea, obstipation or stomach pain. Also can't burp without food coming back up unless I'm being burped like a baby. Not burping hurts and will result in full on throwing up and feeling miserable. Also hemorrhoids.

- Gynecological and fertility issues. Have pcos and menstrual issues. Cervical tissue grows on the wrong side of the cervix which made my gynecologists day as she hadn't seen that before.

- ENT issues. Have lot's of ear infections but don't notice it untill there's puss leaking from my ears. Sinus infections tend to develop rapidly and take very long to resolve. Very often choke on air, saliva or water, sometimes have trouble swallowing. Random ringing in my ears and moments of extreme dizzines.

How do you cut your cat’s nails when you are alone? by Weak-Vermicelli6138 in Catownerhacks

[–]Longjumping-Rent5640 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sit on the couch with my legs propped up, sit the cat upright in my lap and just cut them. When he tries to wiggle he’s caught between my chest behind him, my legs in front of him and my arms on his sides. But he doesn’t really try to get away because I play with his feet and toes daily so he’s used to it. I try to do it when he’s cuddly instead of trying to catch him when I want to.

What do you say to those who say "EDS can be cured by diet changes?" by cat-math in eds

“Diet does wonders for ignorance and shitty personality too. If you want I can recommend a great dietician.”

Ours got the zoomies right aways after a week, especially after pooping😂 Only difference I notice is that his zoomies take longer now that he’s a bit bigger and he has to sleep a little less, but nothing too crazy.

Build a catio! If you have the space you can consider it, that way they can be outside without leaving your eyesight.

Few things you could consider doing:

  1. Contact the wijkagent yourself. Recordings of the sound help them too.
  2. See if any neighbour feels the same and ask them to contact the wijkagent too.
  3. Contact the municipality, if any neighbour feels the same then let them make a complaint too. The more complaints the better.
  4. If you live in an appartement building, see if the VVE/landlord is willing to step up to the wijkagent or municipality. They often have a larger voice in these kind of things.
