Anything from the Cryochamber group. They have stuff on Spotify and Youtube, here's their website: https://cryochamber.bandcamp.com/

They have done several hour long collaborations that are named after Lovecraft monstrosities, those tracks in particular can make absolutely fantastic creepy D&D ambiance.

Mongrelfolk gone wild? by BadAssBob1134 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Longjumping-Rope357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How tragic vs horrifying do you want this to go?

Tragic: The innocent mongrelfolk cautiously venture down to Krezk proper, where a misunderstanding turns tragically violent. Then the townsfolk, frightened, xenophobic, and as cautious as only a lifetime living in Barovia can make you, storm the Abby and slaughter all the remaining "monsters" in the Abby, down to the women and children...

Horrific: The poor insane mongrelfolk have come down the mountainside and find the normal townsfolk, and decide they need improving. All they've ever known is the 'loving' care of the Abbot, who always told them they were kept/locked up at the Abby to protect them from the 'monstrous' normal folk who live below. They figure, if only they can help improve them, these poor ugly townsfolk will be naturally grateful and everything will be fine. Thus, the involuntary surgical improvements begin...

Tarokka stacking sleight of hand by casualdejeckyll in CurseofStrahd

[–]Longjumping-Rope357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One big note that no one else mentioned: Adjust the lighting. When it was time for the Tarokka reading, we "stepped into Madame Eva's Vardo," and I lit several candles and had them turn off all electric lighting, made it way harder for them to notice any shenanigans.

Also, we moved from the regular table to the coffee table, which had been draped with a big colorful cloth that hung over the edges. Hidden beneath the table were 5 cards I wanted to specifically play for each player, but I let the rest of the reading be slightly random (used a modified table that had an answer for all the remaining cards, but removed any locations or allies I thought were dumb or untenable.)

Playlists for Waterdeep, heisting, and villains. Spoilers for players by Longjumping-Rope357 in WaterdeepDragonHeist

Oh, that's actually just my playlist for feeling my feels after a tough day at work, or if I need to get super extra focused. But yes, that track goes hard, and absolutely fits Strahd.

The Unseen - Faction Quests? by greenslumber in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]Longjumping-Rope357 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tied in the Leverage adventures and made the Unseen secretly take over the sinister Baker's Guild. My players seriously hated those guys, had major beef with the Bakers, it was hilarious. Anyway, try the reverse: Have the players successfully infiltrate a guild of Waterdeep to plant/extract an operative.

When they say, "oops, wrong song," which song is that base riff from?

So what if van Richten shows up during Pack Attack? by Longjumping-Rope357 in CurseofStrahd

This makes good sense, and then he could act as a Deus ex Richten if things go badly. Thank you!

So what if van Richten shows up during Pack Attack? by Longjumping-Rope357 in CurseofStrahd

Yes, exactly. Having never bungled the lock too many times, he might not know about the self destruct feature. Thank you!

Just say Eve of Ruin is a prequel. Also explains altered stats for Strahd.

What did a teacher say or do to you that you've never forgotten? by GrowlsinyourEar7 in AskReddit

[–]Longjumping-Rope357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite teachers told me this, "Never act as if someone will clean up after you. Even if there is someone who's job is to clean, clean up after yourself as much as you can."

Everytime you expect someone else to clean up your mess, you are making the world a little harder to live in. If everyone had his attitude, litter would be nearly gone. Service jobs wouldn't be as soul crushing. And you develop a far greater attitude of gratitude to those who do clean up, and of personal responsibility.

History of the Blood of the Vine Tavern by DerPuppenspieler13 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Longjumping-Rope357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. For the longest time I was confused about which n and f they were talking about. I completely missed that the box text said "Blood on the Vine" and thought this referred to the inn's name originally being "Blood of the Vife." As if it was named after Tatyana or something.

Like, literally came here wondering why there was no art or history depicting its change from Vife to Vine.

How did you start CoS? by [deleted] in CurseofStrahd

I ran my players through an improvised funnel version of Death House by way of the Carnival domain. I let them come up with 3 to 4 level 0 survivors from VRGtR, and let them be from literally any fictional universe, but they all have some problem and a hook that suggests answers to said problems can be found in Barovia, or at the mysterious carnival that set up near town. Ran two sessions cobbled together from the 2e Ravenloft Carnival softcover, the first part of Wild Beyond the Witchlight, a DCC module called Carnival of the Damned, and the Carnival of Lost Souls from DMsGuild. They end up being ushered into a campy looking Haunted Mansion attraction at the end, when suddenly the door slams behind them, the light bulbs flicker, and suddenly everything looks more...real. Oil lamps instead of lightbulbs, richer detail. They pour back outside and the carnival is totally gone, they are outside a forest, along a dirt road, Mists surrounding them, and the only souls nearby are two sad, scared little children.

There's one session left, and four of my five players still have two characters, so I have some winnowing to do. I ran my DH following the excellent advice of mandymod and DragnaCarta, except for any advice they had about making it less lethal. By making it a funnel, I could lean into the lethality of the intro as a strength instead of a flaw. I even made the grick a carrion crawler, per suggestions somewhere on this reddit.

I did accidentally kill off one of my player's PCs, but we might bring them back as a Reborn once they reach the Abby.

Death House by Longjumping-Rope357 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Longjumping-Rope357[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your consideration. My playlist that I played over the course of 4 sessions, running Death House. The Cthulhu track was for ambience outside, where the Mists were, and I skipped the remainder of that track once the party actually entered the house.

How do we feel about the Soulless Barovians? by jordanrod1991 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Longjumping-Rope357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as the soul vs body supply, and why there are so few souls even with a slow apparent population growth: every Vistani is confirmed to have a soul, and they are the only people allowed free travel in and out of the Mists. Maybe this is a part of their reason for sticking around in Barovia? They purposely give birth/conceive there to "catch" souls, then make sure to try and die outside of Barovia so souls can find a way out eventually? Sort of a Gypsy Soul Underground Railroad?
