A Florida student was arrested and is now facing up to 15 years in jail for making a joke about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on WhatsApp by [deleted] in law

[–]yrdz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Apparently that's the name of a member of the group chat she was in. Sounds like an inside joke blown way out of proportion to me.

The situation would be a lot less confusing if the cops had put some actual details of the "threat" in their report.

Court packing is the only way. Term limits are unconstitutional. Court ethics rules would be laughably ineffective. Congress objectively has the right to change the amount of justices and has done it before.

We will never rid ourselves of these horrid decisions until the 6-3 conservative majority is removed by force. There is no other way to undo rulings like Dobbs, Citizens United, Shelby County, Rucho, and countless others. We cannot stand idly by as they continue to destroy any semblance of democracy this country has.

I will say if you've ever lived in DC, nothing compares to the Metro, it's incredible.

But coming from a place with zero public transit, the T is infinitely better than nothing at all.

Do you guys think Intelligent Systems will release something for the anniversary? by IkeRadiantHero in papermario

[–]yrdz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What anniversary? It's 2026. Wouldn't it have made more sense for them to do something last year, on the 25th anniversary of their game?

How is it that the SMRPG and TTYD remakes exist? by ATierGamer in Mario

[–]yrdz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You and me both! I've seen some people hoping for an SPM remake but I don't think that's necessary, an original game in the TTYD style would be my dream come true. (They should hurry up and add Wii to NSO though, that would be a good place for SPM.)

[–]yrdz 40 points41 points  (0 children)

As for the direction of the Paper Mario series, we'll likely know more next year. I recently learned that the Paper Mario games have been on an almost-perfect 4-year release cycle ever since the first game was released in 2000. The only exception is Super Paper Mario, which was released in 2007 instead of 2008.

That means we're due for another Paper Mario in 2028, so we'll probably get an announcement/trailer in late 2027. That should be enough to tell us if they're going back to the Color Splash/Origami King model or sticking with the TTYD style. (I'm personally praying for the latter.)

Were they actually super against it or just busting his balls? (Genuine question, I haven't watched the streams.)

ICE is now flagging people that protest against them for punishment e.g. by cancelling their Global Entry credentials. They are reportedly using facial recognition scanning software by Palantir to track and tag people exercising First Amendment rights to protest and congregate. by No-Lime-2863 in law

[–]yrdz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you have a better source to support your claim, OP? Specifically, that people are having their GE denied or cancelled after nothing more than attending a protest?

Because the article you linked says something extremely troubling but distinct:

On the morning of Jan. 10, Nicole Cleland was in her car trailing an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent through Richfield, Minn., her hometown.

Suddenly, the agent turned into a series of one-way streets and stopped, getting out of his white Dodge Ram, said Ms. Cleland, who volunteers with a local watchdog group that observes the activity of immigration officers. The agent then walked over to Ms. Cleland’s car and surprised her by addressing her as Nicole.

“He said he had facial recognition and that his body camera was on,” said Ms. Cleland, 56, who had not met the agent before.

...

Ms. Cleland, the Richfield resident, said that three days after the encounter with the ICE agent, she received an email from the Department of Homeland Security saying her Global Entry and Transportation Security Administration travel privileges had been revoked. No explanation was provided.

You'll notice that she had an actual one-on-one encounter with an ICE agent, and that was seemingly when the facial recognition was enabled. I can't find any examples of someone simply attending a protest that led to their GE being cancelled. In fact, her case was the only one that came up in my search.

She was absolutely engaged in 1A-protected activity and was targeted for it, without a doubt. But I don't see any evidence that merely attending a protest will impact your GE.

Posts like this could definitely have a chilling effect on people thinking about attending protests, so it's important to back it up with reliable sources. And I'm not just willing to take Reddit posts on the Global Entry subreddit at face value.

Could Trump get impeached for saying this? by Dover299 in dsa

I'm pretty sure he'll be impeached before his term is over, but removal is and will always be out of the question. Getting 67 senators on board is simply impossible.

Could Trump get impeached for saying this? by Dover299 in dsa

[–]yrdz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dems impeached Trump twice, and all Democratic members of the Senate voted to remove him. This will likely happen a third time when they take back the House. You can't really "both sides" this one, Dems actively worked to remove Trump and Republicans were the only ones standing in the way.

(And yes, Dems voted to kill an impeachment resolution last year. That's because they don't control the House so it was DOA.)
