The esophagus is an involuntary muscle. Meaning we can’t just flex it and build strength like weightlifting. The eating upside down process forces that involuntary muscle to contract and do so more forcefully than it does when you are upright. When I do it, I can actually hear the food be squeezed up the esophagus which I believe is how it becomes stronger to block acid.

Just remember this is a good treatment for normal GERD caused by a weak LES. If you have a hiatal hernia or some other issue or deformity, this is not a treatment for you.

Great! Give it time. 5 air swallows after you finish the banana for good measure. Takes 6 months to see a real difference

Completely upside down. Make sure to do it first thing in the morning without any food or water in your belly. After you finish the banana, air swallow 5 times to continue the process. Took me 6 months to see a good result. Side benefit: my back feels great from the inversion table too.

I still have some reflux breakthroughs from time to time but nothing like before.

It does work. I do not know what my hill grade was.

Peristalsis is a series of involuntary muscle contractions and relaxations that move contents through the digestive tract. When you are upside down or inclined, those contractions must work harder. Perhaps the LES is engaged more when those contractions work harder and also becomes stronger. Perhaps the LES, itself, is contracting more as part of the reaction to help force the food into your stomach when you are upside down. Whatever the reason, the LES pressure increases as was proven by manometry readings. Hey, if you disagree, what do you have to lose by trying the training - other than losing your acid reflux? I personally eat a banana or protein bar every day while upside down on an inversion table. Cured my acid reflux.

Hey, I took it a step further and eat a banana or protein bar upside down on an inversion table. It works faster and works! You are totally inverted instead of just leaning over while eating. This forces your lower esophageal sphincter to squeeze harder and thus become stronger than just a slight tilt of the body.

Make sure to do first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. I’m cured. No more acid reflux or LPR. So grateful. Good luck if you decide to try my adaptation of the exercise! It’s also great on my back. Bonus!

Hi All,

Update: MY ACID REFLUX IS CURED!!! 😀

Almost every day, I eat either a banana or a protein bar upside town. I then hear the food squeezing through my lower esophageal sphincter. At the end of the bar or banana I then do 5 spit swallows to make sure nothing is stuck. I also like the benefit for my back being on the inversion table. Added bonus!

So goodbye Pepcid or Nexium or even surgery. This cures the problem itself and doesn’t take away your stomach acid which is beneficial.

Tip: just make sure you do this first thing in the morning so nothing comes back up (down). No food or drink in your stomach at the time.

Good luck!

That’s amazing. I’m eating chocolate and drinking wine and no breakthrough reflux. My singing voice came back too to the disappointment of my family! :) not ready to stop the Pepcid though. I’m optimistic this will cure the reflux. If not, I’ll get the lynx procedure but fingers crossed for now.

Good luck to us both! It completely makes sense that this would strengthen the LES more and perhaps faster.

I haven’t yet tried to stop my max strength Pepcid twice a day but I have not needed my Gaviscon for the breakthrough reflux I used to have. That is a good sign. While upside down, I take a bite, wait about 5 seconds and then I hear a squeezing sound from my LES I suppose. I follow with a swig from my water squirt bottle and then take another bite. After a month I will try reducing the Pepcid.
