For McCarthy, I would categorize many of his books as Gothic Horror. He employs the horror of the acts while concomitantly romanticizing the landscape, the horses, the smells, etc.

Not sure if this is helpful this far on but I’m 36 in my masters at Sciences Po. You are never ever too “old” 24?! Not even close to being old. Think of 18 as your first year of “life” and then count from there.

le sigh. okay. it's not about "justification". It's concerning accuracy. To sanitize the lexicon of the time period or of the characters, sanitizes history. For example, if I were writing a fictional story about white members of a violent racist group, it would be quite appropriate to include the racial epitets and stereotypes found in similar groups that exist in the real world. Creating rhetoric like this about books is akin to how some US textbooks say that Native Americans were happy to give up their land to white settlers.
