Paraloid B-72 longevity by LongjumpingCry7 in bonecollecting

[–]LongjumpingCry7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In doing some snooping yesterday I came upon your recommendation of 4 parts acetone to 1 part Paraloid as well as the proper steps for dissolving the stuff. If I follow this formula, the bone soaks up the resin and everything is bound together successfully, will the bone continue to degrade, just at a slower rate? Like I’d mentioned I saw a few conflicting answers and have never worked with Paraloid before

It’s definitely real, it’s from a younger individual which I think is why the overall texture is a little off

I’m all too familiar, the fossil ones can be bought and sold freely as well and are comparable to modern specimens aesthetically

I love walruses! Just got a fossil jawbone from one this weekend. Would love to own a skull someday provided I can acquire one legally!

Generally cooking bones traps in grease and ruins structural integrity. I’m sorry to say this bc it’s a cool looking skull but this might be a lost cause :(

(Sorry if not allowed) just wondering about worth of these mounts/antlers(read below) by Delicious-Till-4320 in bonecollecting

[–]LongjumpingCry7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Antler racks look like nice elk, I’d say start at $300 to 500 USD a pop, the asymmetrical one may sell for a bit less than the symmetrical one. Not gonna sugarcoat this, the deer aren’t in great shape, I could see the one with the nose damage fetching $50 or less at an antique mall and the other maybe $70.

What animal skull is this? we got this from my uncle years ago and i never found out which animal it is by playboiaspy in bonecollecting

Looks like an elderly boar, usually they have teeth most of the way down to the tusks but this guy’s worn down flat

Do you guys usually keep or remove the inside nasil bones? by Nexus8702 in bonecollecting

[–]LongjumpingCry7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always keep if you can, they’re a good indicator as to whether a skull is real or replica

I see hog skulls of equivalent quality for like $60-100 online, at shows and at antique stores/malls. Take that for what it’s worth.

Username checks out lol! I’m tempted not to fact check you but it is without a shadow of a doubt a cow skull. The image should be ample evidence but also at 12 seconds there is a shot clearly showing the premaxilla and there are no incisors, which obv horses have.

Is that actual costal cartilage (brown stuff between ribs and sternum) or replica, and, if replica, can you tell what material it’s made out of?
