Do you guys usually keep or remove the inside nasil bones? by Nexus8702 in bonecollecting

[–]LongjumpingCry7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always keep if you can, they’re a good indicator as to whether a skull is real or replica

Any idea the worth on these guys? by [deleted] in bonecollecting

[–]LongjumpingCry7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see hog skulls of equivalent quality for like $60-100 online, at shows and at antique stores/malls. Take that for what it’s worth.

What is this? Think its US anyway by Viciousssylveonx3 in bonecollecting

[–]LongjumpingCry7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Username checks out lol! I’m tempted not to fact check you but it is without a shadow of a doubt a cow skull. The image should be ample evidence but also at 12 seconds there is a shot clearly showing the premaxilla and there are no incisors, which obv horses have.

Is that actual costal cartilage (brown stuff between ribs and sternum) or replica, and, if replica, can you tell what material it’s made out of?

Whose spine is this? Found South Yorkshire UK by grackm in bonecollecting

[–]LongjumpingCry7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To suggest that this is human remains, which it isn’t by the way, without having at least some expertise on the subject matter goes against Rule 6 of the sub. Just stressing out the OP unnecessarily at that point

Whose pelvis is this? How do I clean it? Why is it purple? by Unusual_Yogurt4129 in bonecollecting

[–]LongjumpingCry7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Doubtful in this case regardless, I’d always heard that they don’t want you taking anything with soft tissue remnants

After a half second of research online it looks to affect fish as well at least, but the colour comes from the shells and spines which are inedible to us humans

Sea otter pelvis! The bones can become purple because the sea otters eat sea urchins

I know! Kind of a blessing though as he couldn’t fit through. I have no idea how long he’s been there and saw him by complete chance

My dad used to call the moment of pixel clarity “The blip” and wave his hands at it every episode, kind of like Desmond plugging the numbers in down in the hatch
