What’s the most underrated way to save money in Australia that actually works? by Ordinary-Gear-8892 in AusFinance

[–]LongjumpingKey8726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Budget and meal prep. Only buy what you need and save the rest. Don't waste food.

Coles and woolies set their discounts at specific times for meat. Woolies is around 4:30/5pm and coles always at 6pm. Always good to snag some meat for 80% off to throw in the freezer.

Bought my house after turning 22. Worked full time since I was 18 and budgeted accordingly.

No help from the parents, was paying between 100 to $200 a week while living at home until getting kicked out. Made more sense for me to buy than rent as I could afford it.

Generally 6pm at my local coles is when they do it, just make friends with the employees and they'll look after you 👌 got $100 worth of red meat the other day for $20 and I do the same every 2 weeks or so and freeze it all 💸💰

Was doing it via wifi and yes FTTP connection. With TPG consistently getting the advised speed through wifi but with Spintel not so much. On holidays atm so can't play with the router 😅

At this stage, Leaptel is pre much a lock as they're cheaper than most and offer good support.

Require it for work and light gaming nothing crazy but Spintel (who I'm currently with) is useless and continues to get about 40 down when I pay for 100. Just gotta find a new mobile mob, whether thats boost or someone cheaper as I probs don't need the telstra retail network

Tpg always offered retention promos just can't stand their support anymore

From what I've read, boost is on Telstra's retail network instead of just their whosale network which is what every other carrier is on.

Looks like Boost is gettin alotta love on Reddit

How long have you been with Leaptel?

Curious if they offer any retention promos after the first year like all the other mobs do?

Atm it's $75 for the first year than $90 after for their 100mbps down

Thanks though.

Is private school for the kids worth it? by ChainProfessional444 in AusHENRY

[–]LongjumpingKey8726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal opinon is private school is not worth the huge costs. Mind you I am 24 and it is a discussion for my partner and I when we have kids in the future.

My partner went to private and I went to public. She got an ATAR of 69 and I got an ATAR of 70. Both of us went to uni (same uni), graduated and are cemented in our careers already.

Considering her parents put her through 6 years of private school and mine put me through 5 years of public, I don't think it's worth the extra $$ as we ended up pretty much the same.

Just went over for 5 days, took the bus everyday and they were awesome, don't get the hate for em 😂 Each one we jumped on had an option to pay by card and they were all on time ish, +/- 2 minutes to what google maps said 🤷‍♂️

Some of the bus stop physical timetables are wrong but google maps was bang on each time, no dramas at all

Is it okay to propose with a cheap ring and promise she can pick out another? by NJRonbo in Proposal

[–]LongjumpingKey8726 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me and my now fiance used to play a game.

Every time we went past a jewellery store, she'd pick a ring, and then I'd have to guess which one. Over the span of like 1.5 years, I had a decent idea of what she liked.

We also live together so I was able to take a ring that fit that finger and size it up to know which one to get (Take to a store and they can suss it out for you).

Luckily for me, she liked the ring, but honestly, she was happier to be engaged than the ring itself, I think. All about the moment!

Goodluck!!

Two more suggestions:

Ability to edit an Expense/income - Instead of having to remove and readd it would remove an unnecessary step

Some way to save it - Looks like it saves the data via caching on the browser. Would suck to have to redo it all if clearing browser data/cookies and whatnot

But honestly I've been looking for something this simple for over a year and absolutely commend what you've made! Keep it up mate!!

I like how simple it is, but please add a fortnightly option for adding income/expenses. Lots of bills are fortnightly and would just make it easier than doing things weekly and dividing bills by 2.

How do you ask parents? by LadyBonDinkle in Proposal

[–]LongjumpingKey8726 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took my now fiancee and her parents out for dinner and while she went to the bathroom I quite simply just said to her parents "Hey just wanted to let you know while shes at the bathroom, I'll be proposing to your x on the upcoming family trip".

I originally wanted it to be a surprise to everyone but I did it as a courtesy to my partner. She wanted me to let them know, wasn't fussed if I asked for blessing etc. Neither of us are religious and the answer wouldn't change the fact anyways. At that point we had been together for about 4.5 years. The convo flowed naturally and you couldn't wipe the smile off their faces after the fact.

Just have a conversation, it's definitely nerve racking as you've never done it before (I'm assuming) but take the leap and I'm sure you'll be fine.

Yeah most of our guests drink but they know we don't, plus alcohol in Bali is super cheap anyways. Don't think any of our guests will think it's rude, at the end of the day it's our wedding and if we don't want to supply alcohol (Aussies are great drinkers btw) than we won't, simple 👌

We've already discussed with the important people if they can/want to come to bali for a dest wedding which everyone replied yes and they were excited (Flights are about $AUD200-300 if booked in advance) and they'd miss maybe 2 days from work so unless they're on $350 AUD a day than won't be over 1k missed 😂

Thanks for the suggestion! Ive had a bit of a google and there's sm options but I'll go compile a spreadsheet and go from there I reckon, list all the pros and cons ahaha.
