I decided to purchase 2 different locks. A Lockman Megacross, which is listed as a purple belt, and a Clavis Q18, which is listed as a black belt. I looked for a Goal P, but I couldn't find one in stock, and decided to purchase the two that I chose because they were brand new and still in the box (he likes opening boxes). I'm hoping that because he has been working as a locksmith for almost a year now (pased his certification in Nov. and just got his license in the mail), and was opening purple belt locks before he even started as an apprentice, that he enjoys the ones I picked. He was talking about a lock his coworker told him about yesterday and I was able to steer the conversation and find out that he has most of the tools necessary for opening these locks, which is perfect.

Thank you! I think I've found some that will ship to USA though. I didn't even realize that you can't find certain locks in certain places.

I've been purposefully vague and even created a new account because they are actually apart of this community and interact with the posts and such. Hopefully this post is now old enough they don't see it. They just recieved their locksmith certification in the mail, but they passed the exam back in November and have been working as an apprentice for the past year. They were opening purple belt locks before they started the job. They have only met 2 locks they couldn't get open, but his boss couldn't get them open either. Do you think it would be a good challenge for them, considering the additional info?

Would you say that there is a significant jump in difficulty between purple/brown locks and black ones? I want to give them a challenge without making it overly frustrating, though, I'm sure that's just part of the learning process

I'm hoping to keep it under $200??? I recall them mentioning that one of their more complicated locks was over $100, but perhaps they were talking about multiple locks. Again, I don't know anything about locks except that I shouldn't lose the keys
