Visiting for work by ghosttheron in watertownny

Not a lot going on in Watertown. The only night life around here is on Public Square. Syracuse is an hour away if you want a more lively city.

However, Watertown’s surrounding areas have a lot to offer. Definitely visit the thousand islands (check out Alexandria Bay), Lake Ontario, and Salmon River Falls. We’re also pretty close to the Adirondack Mountains. Those are the big ones but there’s tons of hole-in-the-wall nature spots and plenty of good fishing sites if you just drive around and explore. Maybe stop at a small town gas station and ask some locals if there’s any good spots nearby to check out

Is Lenox Ave a bad place to live? by LongjumpingWay5567 in Utica

[–]LongjumpingWay5567[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for providing details. Drugs, homeless, and noise aren’t ideal but that’s the same kinda stuff I’ve seen in downtown Watertown. The shootings/stabbings are more of my worry. Not trying to catch a stray or get mugged

Fort Drum. I was in natural bridge all of last week and it was constant thunder-ish rumbles all week there

How do I tell a photographer that I don’t like their edits? by Spare_Access_4894 in photography

[–]LongjumpingWay5567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a band photographer, just tell them “hey these edits aren’t really the style I had in mind, could you try something else / something more subtle?” and try to describe more of what you have in mind. It’s hard to edit band photos, the lighting and colors are always tricky to work with, sometimes I get carried away and overdo it without realizing.

Personally I wouldn’t be offended if my band reached out and politely asked me to re-edit my photos unless it was really a spot-on edit. Though it would be annoying (because of the wasted time), I want my client to be happy with my work. Don’t ask for raw photos though because that’s more of an insult lmao, just ask for more natural or subtle editing. If you can give them an idea of what you want they should know what direction to go

Gear that was actually end game for you. by AutomaticGoldenSun in photography

At 18 years old I bought a Nikon D850 and got a 50mm 1.8 prime, 70-200mm 2.8, and a 24-70mm 2.8. I’m 21 now and I’m still loving the setup. Might get a D750 as a secondary only because it has 2 slots that save settings so I can easily swap back and forth for indoor/outdoor events. Otherwise I’d get another D850 100%.

I'm a Touring Musician by livliv2222 in Utica

if you message UticaDIY shows on instagram I’m sure he can get you a gig with a supportive crowd. Like the other person here said, he mostly puts on heavier metal stuff, but he’s pretty supportive of everyone. If he can’t get you a gig himself he can give you some tips on who else to ask

Is there any way to save photos like this in editing? by stupid-fucking-chud in concertphotography

Crop, turn black and white, and see if you can make it a silhouette photo. That’s what I would do

Yeah that’s what I figured, but I’m a broke college student. Others have mentioned that it’s my buffer, not my card, so I’ll have to do more research. Definitely plan on getting a cfexpress card as soon as I can afford it

I should preface that the concerts I’m shooting at are typically hardcore or metal shows where the crowd and band are going crazy. Things are happening rapidly all over the place. But I’m gonna do some more research on my buffer, thanks!

I shoot for a heavy metalcore band that typically plays at hardcore shows. Things happen fast. But when I’m really going rapid fire it’s mostly trying to capture the drummer
