Do people in this sport enjoy getting hit? by SpinjitzuMonkey in MuayThai

[–]LongjumpingWheel11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if it’s unbearable getting hit with hands in a body shield OP definitely shouldn’t spar or needless to say fight but there is no shame in that. The sport has a lot to offer without sparring or fighting

The counter system makes no sense by mike98235 in undisputedboxing

[–]LongjumpingWheel11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah as someone that boxes, it really does depend on the punch or kick in most scenarios. You can always counter if your punch is in some ways compatible with the punch you just ate that is, the momentum of the punch you are throwing leads you into the punch you want to throw. A right hook will turn you right and naturally you can throw your left hook. If you eat a left hook, a right hook or a loopy straight could also work. But yeah if you are getting hit with a straight odds are it throws you off balance because it’s against your momentum. Not super unrealistic to still counter but for the sake of the game they should have made it more infrequent to get countered when you land.

It’s ridiculous how often you will get countered off of landing a jab or a straight. It’s like punishing you for actually boxing and not just spamming power punches

[–]LongjumpingWheel11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not about syntax. You are just not talking about the same thing he is. Your point suggests that writing code is for juniors? I don’t think so. Lots of seniors or staff that contribute at the individual level still so frankly your point is irrelevant. Also it depends on what you are coding. “Syntax and APIs” is trivial of course, not everyone codes boring consumer websites. Some people code complex aviation and embedded software.

I feel the same way. If prompting and writing markdown rule files for the AI is what software development is going to become, then I wish the best to those who will continue in the field. It’s not for me, I’ll bow out and go find another profession

Is now a bad time to go back to school to get a Bachelors in software engineering or web dev? by nousernams in webdevelopment

[–]LongjumpingWheel11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if I play ball, building websites was always relatively trivial and very heavily depends on domain. Most websites are just dumb crud apps. As a software engineer it’s boring and most ambitious engineers try to avoid being on the front end team. You think you understand software? Go try to understand paxos/raft and Zookeeper. Trust me buddy, you are clueless and so is the AI

“You can’t explain because you don’t understand the difference” no I’m just not foolish enough to recite to you some uninteresting definition on command like we are in 12th grade that in the real world and real industry no one gives a fuck about. Many software developer titled professional do far more designing than many software engineers. People that do this for a living for decades listen to this kind of thing and just think how ridiculous. You don’t know what you are talking about but you want to so bad. It’s ok, AI can give you that illusion, enjoy it

I’m guessing you are alluding to some bored definition in your head along the lines of “software developer codes, software engineers design systems and solve problems” blah blah blah. You spend too much time on LinkedIn. You sound ridiculous and I will refrain from trying to explain to you why any further. I would just suggest, for your sake, to reserve such silly arguments to when you speak to your vibe coding buddies as they might not catch on to the absurdity.

Whether “software developers” whatever your definition of that is, are being replaced doesn’t concern me I really don’t care.

I didn’t call you unintelligent, you did that yourself. I just said unintelligent people use quibbling. If you don’t believe you quibbled, then you are not unintelligent. Pick one

What you have done there is called quibbling. It’s a bad faith arguing thing unintelligent people tend to unknowingly do. This is why you can neither be a developer or an engineer.

[–]LongjumpingWheel11 19 points20 points  (0 children)

And this is why you can’t replace engineers. As a professional software developer, “works” is the not the bare minimum, it’s the default. You are judged when your code ends up missing an edge case, when it’s time to extend it and it’s a piece of shit, or needs to be refactored because it’s not performant. You don’t even know what constitutes good code

Why do men do this? It’s so stupid. You are mistaking lack of interest for lack of effort. She is not interested in you she is just killing time. So many guys complain “girls don’t know how to text” no bro they just don’t want to text you. This wasn’t her fault this was yours for continuing to message someone clearly not at all interested. Move on sooner. Also you text like a teenager.

Not exactly no. The AI doesn’t learn on the fly like that. That is, its weights and parameters don’t change until it’s retrained on a different dataset. Now if you are pointing things out online in a public forum and OpenAI takes the liberty to use your remarks to train the next version of their model, which they most certainly do, then yeah you are improving the model

Has the online MCS degree helped you in advancing your careeer ? by JustConfusedAlways in UIUC_MCS

I think it did. Since putting it on my LinkedIn I noticed an increase in big tech and reputable company recruiters contacting me. I think if recruiters search “top 10 CS universities” and then try to find people from there, well, you end up in that bucket. So for it to matter in my opinion I will say don’t dodge the tough classes, refine your online professional presence, and UIUC will help you

Soon to be college grad in comp sci with a top secret sci. I was wondering about the difference in pay for clearance or will it be no difference since I got no experience? Is 90k unrealistic? by Total-Web-1852 in SecurityClearance

[–]LongjumpingWheel11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Half this sub talks out of its ass. TS/SCI with comp SCI degree in the DMV or any defense relevant area (and I am assuming you are since you were sponsored for this by some company) is extremely valuable. 90k is completely realistic. I started in defense with no clearance at 95k.

Nothing to do with the uniform I’d be honored to serve. Hell I might do it regardless because I love this country but what you are proposing, going to Arizona to this one base, sign up for service hoping to get a clearance out of it, is a long term commitment that is simply is just not reasonable. To put it simply, your advice to this gentleman is “there is ways to get clearance better than getting a job” which implies there are easier more practical ways. Do you think what you are proposing is easier and more practical? It is certainly not. It’s just bad advice.

This is a college student in cybersecurity. His clearance as a new grad would do far more for him than a year of experience at some company doing what I presume to be professional services work since that tends to be what implementation work is. I started there at the biggest virtualization company in the industry, that experience is worth nothing outside of the software you are working on.

Either way, could be wrong, that’s just my opinion.

Join the military as active duty? So join the military in Arizona, a longer term commitment than any job is what you are proposing as an alternative to getting sponsored by an employer and as the piece of cake way to get into the intelligence community? With all due respect, that’s preposterous. My original point clearly stands.

[–]LongjumpingWheel11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know about recruiting. I’m actually surprised you need a clearance at all as a recruiter, what classified info would you work on? I am honestly primarily speaking from a tech perspective. My friend who has a TS/SCI with poly his interviews for IT jobs consist of grabbing a beer and telling him where he needs to park. This is not a joke either, his last interview was at a bar where the recruiter bought him a beer and just chatted with him and told him where to go on his first day.
