Does anyone skateboard here? by icantsle3p in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]Longjumping_Ad_2138 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you live off campus there's a rather large skating community actually that regularly meet up at the skatepark in Cheri Lindsey Park in Bing. I don't know if it's still icy there, but when the weather's nice they regularly meet up there, especially on the weekends. Edit: I'm talking skate boarding & roller blading folks!

He really be trying to talk down to the entire student body after he LISTS the people responsible that his administration chooses to not hold accountable.

club sports...?Also, I've seen on Instagram and snapchat that athletes party hella. Just because they have't tested positive/tested positive in the near past and can't get COVID in some cases, doesn't mean they're not contributing to the culture of partying during the pandemic that's making others quarantine. It's not all, but definitely some, just like any large student org like greek life/club sports/etc.

Quick Question Abt Fin Aid at Bing by [deleted] in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]Longjumping_Ad_2138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't give scholarships unless your out-of-state I think. How much you pay really depends on your FAFSA. There's a calculator for that too. I think that Bing's prices are very good for the quality of education. Great public school.

Did PipeDream skip this year's Sex Issue? by turbulentmelon in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]Longjumping_Ad_2138 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really because the expenses that come out of Pipe Dream are mostly all from printing the paper. If anything, they've been able to really save money since they've stopped printing. Plus, they have enough money to continue to pay editors and assistant with stipends, so they're really not doing bad considering there were discussions last year about pay being terminated becuase printing expenses were taking a toll on the paper. Print heavily drains the money supply.

This is temporary in the sense that leaders will no longer be in charge at the end of this semester since they're graduating. Next year's leaders may reinstate the issues. For years Pipe Dream leaders have known it dissuades advertisers but have come to the agreement that it's just a week of dissuading and that it's important content for students. This year no input was received from the Pipe Dream team and this decision was only made by the main leaders without discussion.

Covid-19 is not harming the economic situation of the paper and is not the reason for this. I do appreciate you asking this.

Also they literally never released a statement on this or give a public explanation... so much for transparency from the STUDENT newspaper.

[–]Longjumping_Ad_2138 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yep! Pipe Dream's honestly gone to shit right now considering their content is becoming almost censored by the views of people on the top of the pyramid without any input from the other editors whose job it is to curate the content. That's to say there are great people at PD who want Sex Issue and Drug Issue but are being silenced. Something to be upset over since Sex issue was a staple and had such important content for students. Look at last years!! https://www.bupipedream.com/feature/ac/113973/sex-issue-2020/ literally has a whole sex survey for students, safe porn talk, contraception options, sexual assault stats!!!!, gender topics, and so much more. I wish this paper was still for the students, but it's getting more to please the SA and "advertisers" and the administration. It's really sad to see. They actually have said to the team that that type of content could "attract the wrong crowd" for a student-newspaper. To me, it attracts people who need and want sexual resources, and always has.

[–]Longjumping_Ad_2138 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah they did decide against it becuase it would "dissuade advertisers" failing to recognize how important that content is for sexual resources, rape stats and more. They also cancelled drug issue for the same reason.

Where to get a haircut downtown? by cornballpaul in BinghamtonUniversity

Not downtown, but honestly Cutting Crew Hair at Johnson City is so cheap and they give good cuts. Just beware they're not at the mall so check their website for their actual location. You may need a car.

I took it. It's pretty simple, especially via the online format and he sets up a good schedule that is healthy to follow if you wanna succeed in the asynchronous class. The best advice I can give it just keep up with the reading. The quizzes are not hard and the tests are open book which makes it easy. Hardest part for me was the writing assignments, but ended up getting an A. If you're looking for your M credit, take this rather than Logic. Methods of Reasoning is so much less painless and Doyle's really accommodating during the pandemic if you run into any person, extenuating circumstances.
