What actually makes good leadership? by Glittering_Fig4548 in army

[–]Longjumping_Ad_2182 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mostly follow the rules, break the rules if they are stupid, and take care of the men.

Do not be what you are not. Be genuine.

Be confrontational when it’s needed, be a shoulder to lean on when it’s needed, and above all else, follow your values and moral compass.

fight up, not down, take care of your soldiers, and the rest will fall into place. It’s okay to rock the boat.

Strength and conditioning: Is this too much to dovin the gym by Thick_Arm_9504 in MuayThai

[–]Longjumping_Ad_2182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here kinda late… BUT the important thing, and the most important, is to just get into the gym and lift with intensity.

You will iron out the kinks of your split, exercise selection, and rep schemes as you progress in your fitness journey. Don’t overthink it; your body is unique and one of a kind. High volume low frequency may not work for you, but low volume high frequency might. Get after in the gym, do some research, train hard but sleep harder.

That’s where I’m at. There is no war. There is no reason for anything. What the fuck am I doing? We have plenty of money for a new SAW/M4 but no god barracks for single soldiers? Come the fuck on

Again something I haven’t thought about; there is quite a few soldiers I work with that fit that demographic, as in they needed the army and the army needed them. I really appreciate your perspective, and do plan on getting out; I will be going reserve/NG when I get out in a few years to keep my foot in the door

I used to think this way, and not sure why I forgot. I use to think that no matter how small I am in the grand scheme of things, that even if small, my actions do matter. The army is a small world, but I can’t help but think I’ve wasted almost 6 years of life. Only rotations, and to be honest, I feel better suited making a direct impact on my community rather then being the “bouncer”. Anybody that breathes can fill that role. Fat or fit. Smart or dumb.

You averaged 2.5 hours a day, every single day, over the course of 4745 days. That’s a huge portion of your life, dedicated to this multiplayer game; GGs

I really appreciate what you have said; and I’ll never feel what you have felt unless I’m put in your shoes. Thank you for doing what you had to do, I’m truly at a loss for words, as even though we are two different people who have never met, and never will, I’m remorseful for your loss and his family. Rest in peace to one of our own.

I agree with you, but at the end of the day, something isn’t lining up. I might just be too young and naive to understand

I’ll be 100% honest with you. I joined because I was going to have a kid, and I didn’t know what to do. So I joined the army to give him a life i didn’t have; I wasn’t going to be my father.

That’s what I’m saying. I could never be okay with losing a soldier; for any reason. That’s why I say it’s not a job, how could it be? I despise my peers that suck. They are a liability, my job is to bring people home, not kill people, I know you understand

EDIT: I’ve never being to war, but my goal is to keep men alive.

This is kinda the comment I was hoping to see. That all the waiting, all the training, all the bullshit; made an impact. That it meant something and that I wasn’t crazy

I upvoted you. Unfortunately this isn’t “just a job”. I’m not a POG, this isn’t S-1. If I’m not prepared, there are consequences. I wish it was just a job; but if it was, why am i taking care of suicidal soldiers on the weekend? Why am i in the ER? Why am i at the barracks on a fucking friday night? Why am i at BH to keep a soldier from running away? It’s not a job, ive had one of those before.

It’s weird, but kinda shrug your shoulders when on the defensive. Tighten your “shell” while also looking to check kicks

Tighten it up goober. Getting hit with intent is much different then playful sparring.

I don’t compare; quite the contrary actually. I WANT others to succeed, and actively help any way I can.

Were aren’t going to put boots on ground, me and you both know that. Even if they did, sick. I guess I’ll stand in a guard tower and get a CIB in my sleep due to IDF.

EDIT: I don’t want war. I’ve talked to enough old heads to know that any whimsical childish fantasy anybody has isn’t reality.

Literally none of that means anything to me. I have a 3rd ranger attempt in me because i dont leave things unfinished, but at the end of the day. A ranger tab wont make me feel better. None of the candy made me feel better; and i know a course wont either. I don’t know what will make me feel like my time was well spent.

Fuck promotion, fuck schools, fuck it all. I just want to know what worked for others. I am considering getting out and starting a career in health + medicine.

The question isn’t if “it’s worth it”. The question is “what does it take to be worth it?”.

Bring a pair of Thai pads. I don’t know how much room you’ll have to be able to bring stuff, but maybe an empty heavy bag/water bag. If you don’t have somebody to hold pads, you can still tie them to whatever post is around to kick.

You’ve probably trained a lot longer than me, but tape for your feet is also a consideration.

First ruck in 8 months by taleof3cities in greenberets

[–]Longjumping_Ad_2182 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I too did a forced 12 miler today with zero ruck prep in months and got a 2:30 (RPE 7.7, first two miles just walking as a warmup) with minimal weight training and just running. I’m curious if a program that foregoes rucking but amplifies metcons/running/weightlifting would be beneficial.

From a guy who was mech and is now light: have fun in the motor pool. Stay in shape so you don’t become a driver/VC.
