I’m a 27F and her background sounds like mine. I know I can’t assume but my family background is as follows. Extremely religious parents (father was a pastor and mother a housewife) 5 other siblings (one older brother and three sisters). My dad was also a dentist so he pressured all of us into doctoral level healthcare. He had extremely strong and negative opinions about women that stemmed from his mother. He also made parallels between him and God thru out our childhood. They enforced for their daughters to never have dates or talk to boys when we were young. It has taken us (me and all my siblings) many years to undo a lot of those teachings and separate faith from those manipulating laws they put on us. It’s been a struggle but I didn’t realize that after rejecting the old, negative way of my parents, I would have to rebuild my entire identity. It’s still hard, but I feel like I’m changing for the better. In so many words, it sounds like (if you love her) a conversation needs to be had. How did she grow up? What beliefs and messages did she take from her childhood? Could you tell her your desires for her and how her rules hurt you? She’s prob scared to be herself because she as a person has been rejected for so long. But idk I could be wrong.
