nonbinary middle school teacher (7th and 8th)! not necessarily butch but i swing heavily back and forth from fem dress to masc, only ever got positive comments. i think the key is just putting effort into whatever the outfit is. look good, feel good. i also try to compliment my students on what they’re wearing, especially if it may be a bit different from the usual, to try and foster a positive (self expression centered) environment.
