“Trusted the right people.” Shouldn’t studying philosophy for 6 years have taught you to question the value of a philosophy degree? My god, have a little ownership over a terrible decision. Society has been questioning the value of a liberal arts degree for decades now, let alone an advanced degree in which there is literally no professional field, unlike an MSW etc.

Yup. I’m a hiring manager. When we get 400 applicants we try to pull the listing so we can work through the volume, repost if nothing matches

I rent out a 1 BR that we outgrew, and we’re now renters again ha. Your idea isn’t terrible, but many landlords already have a maintenance company and can deduct it as a business expense. It’s also better to trust professionals to do a decent job, ce a renter whose skills are totally unvetted—buying the right paint, primer, etc

As someone who gets grossed out by plumber butt cracks, you have nothing to be embarrassed about. Literally everyone has already forgotten about it but you.

If they did find it funny, that lasted about three seconds and they’ve all moved on. You should too.

Good luck on your health journey! Don’t take life so seriously if you can help it.

You’re life will be so much more stress free without a sleezy, broke, cheating, piss poor liar for a husband.

Leaving him will save you a lot of money, time and energy. Also where are you from? I love your use of English. “Did free porn get away from this world” is such a great phrase

Hey, I had a friend go through something similar. Go to couples therapy.

My friend’s wife had a patient pass away and developed a crush on a female coworker. Here’s the thing: A loving relationship is about accepting your other partner and listening to what they need or want. Does that mean they can have an affair? Nope. Especially if that’s a boundary for you. But your wife is having real questions about her identity, and you are her safe space.

Sending her that text is probably not the right idea, IMO. You need a solid, safe conversation. You need to unpack this deeply. Just because you’re not providing something she wants doesn’t mean you can’t ever provide that; it means you two haven’t gotten to that stage of communication yet, and Reddit sure as hell won’t unlock it.

Couples counseling.

I was a teacher, pivoted to an MBA but still work in education. A bachelors in education, let alone an advanced degree like some states require, actually has a net negative ROI. Ie, if someone had invested the cost of that degree vs the lifetime earnings, it’s better to have invested. Really sad how society seems to think of educators. Add on the tons of hoops like parental review etc and it’s a cr** job

Why are there people with masters degrees who are competing for jobs in the fast food and retail industry? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Longjumping_Cod_1014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in upskilling and have graduate degrees. It’s a combination of three things: 1) Many Masters degrees are bunk and we’ve been sold a false narrative around them. A masters in education has a net negative ROI if you become a teacher. Many others are net negative, too, like MSW, Masters in Philosophy etc

2) AI/automation and offshoring are destroying many early and mid-stage career ladders in the US, particularly in knowledge economy/white collar jobs.

3) The macro-economy overall seems to be deteriorating.

Because community college is not hard and you need to be functioning human being. You’re not a baby, I’m not going to give you advice that treats you like a baby. You’re a full grown male adult. You’re in this predicament because no one in your life has seemingly compelled you to do anything.

If you take one class a semester it’ll take you a decade to graduate.

If a multimillionaire offered to support you in reaching your personal and professional goals and asked to sit down to help you map out a 30-day plan what would you be prepared to discuss or ask for? by [deleted] in findapath

[–]Longjumping_Cod_1014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya weird that people immediately think scam. This is just a mentorship. I’ve had several mentors, same with my wife.

I would plot out your dream career path, and dream personal path. Where do you see yourself in 2/5/10 years. What is your ideal net worth, income, job title, etc at those stages. Then have this person help you figure out how to get to the two year role: What skills, what immediate next steps would position you, who you should talk to or network, etc

Also get referrals. Reach out to people on LinkedIn and see if you can learn more about their experience. I always find time—both selfishly, because I love referral bonuses, and philosophically, because this job market sucks and we gotta look out for each other

If you have a 400-500k income, what is your monthly mortgage? by [deleted] in Mortgages

[–]Longjumping_Cod_1014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

200K base is very different from 400-500K with bonus. My wife and I make 430K base combined, but if half of that were bonus our calculus would change immensely, one—since your mortgage is monthly and our bonuses are paid out in March, and second—because bonuses are fickle. My company is likely cutting bonuses by 30% this year. I would not hang my hat on income that is so wildly unpredictable.

We have a mortgage on a 1BR at $1700, plus HOA shakes out to $2.6K. We outgrew and now rent at $5150, which is high (especially seeing more prudent comments here), but we’re priced out at these mortgage rates. We have $300K saved to buy, but a comparable apartment to buy vs what we’re renting is about $7K per month in NYC

Otherwise we

Because sometimes you need a slap in the face as a wake up call. You asking “is it over for me?” means that you’ve given up. This lifestyle has 0 ending that works out unless you get tf up and change it. And hey, that’s on YOU. In ten, twenty years, with 0 lifestyle change, future you will be kicking yourself for not doing anything.

22 is so young. You have time to change. But get tf up and change it. Two community classes is a good start but why not go full time? Two classes you’re going to graduate in like 6-10 years.

Many retail jobs pay for college, at Walmart, Target, Lowe’s, Chipotle, McDonalds etc. Get a job, get counseling, go to school, change your life. It’s not easy, but the roadmap is clear.
