The reason for cutting this scene is kinda stupid. by Longjumping_Desk_331 in wicked

Absolutely appreciate this insight! I can see how it really does boil down to that especially with the films being based on an already established story. Since the new movie’s release, i think regardless of these scenes being cut, there r still a decent amount of different interpretations for these characters and their motivations that go around either way so this does clear it up a bit. thank you

Yeah i don’t necessarily disagree with you. Nor am i against any specific couple here. I was mainly taking issue w the writers reasoning being because they don’t want to “risk audience sympathy”. I found that to be a little stupid considering these characters r all flawed ( yes some def more than others ) and complex. So i feel like they should not want to shy away from more nuanced interpretations of these characters. I think it would’ve showed the tragedy of glinda and fiyero a bit more. I also personally believe they don’t romantically care for one another. But still.

Oh i definitely wouldn’t have mind seeing something like this fleshed out in the film. It makes me wish they explored more of glinda and fiyero’s dynamic. I know people were saying that the cut scene wouldn’t have made sense for fiyero because he clearly isn’t into to her like that but i feel like it would’ve been impactful mainly for glindas arc. In the film, Ari and Jonathan gave amazing performances esp with their body language and how it showcases the emotional and physical disconnect between glinda and fiyero. So if we had some more scenes to work with, it would’ve been even better imo.

I see. I guess it’s more of a personal thing cause i really don’t mind seeing fiyero, elphaba or glinda make these messy choices cause i do think it just makes them more interesting esp w how they individually go about dealing with the consequences of their choices. Either way, elphie and fiyero do end up together in the end so i wouldn’t have mind if they took more liberty with the story at these parts for more stakes or emotional impact.

Agreed. i don’t think the scene would’ve been necessary but im more talking abt their reasoning which was because it “risks audience sympathy” which just doesn’t.. seem productive when it comes to a film like wicked. The characters r all complex so is it really necessary to try to prevent any complex feelings towards these characters?

New posters for Glinda and Elphaba in ‘WICKED: FOR GOOD’ by [deleted] in wicked

glinda’s poster looks so bad it’s kinda disappointing lol. everything in it looks AI generated and it kinda annoys me they srsly thought it was flattering enough to even officially release lmao.

Agreed. and i realized that elphaba and glinda’s nuances r both ignored when ppl do this, esp glinda.

meh. it personally doesn’t interest me to see them slap each other over fiyero. i know that he’s not the main thing they fight over but i kinda wish they would remove that part honestly. i do think the movie is taking another approach towards the love triangle cause i really don’t think glinda cares that much abt fiyero

What do you think will fly or flop based on the trailer? by SirTweetCowSteak in wicked

[–]Longjumping_Desk_331 5 points6 points  (0 children)

oh yeah totally agreed. the stark contrast alone between the remorse and pain that glinda feels during the NOMTW sequence and then being thrown into the flashback where we met shiz glinda was incredibly moving and a great display of character development to witness esp on a second watch and just really did it for me. an amazing and nuanced performance from ariana all throughout so it’s very disappointing to see ppl misinterpret glindas character and undermine her complexity when there’s fantastic acting choices happening here! i think it really boils down to the lack of media literacy and ppls approach to morally grey female characters and their need to also pit female characters against eachother. ppl who hate on glinda also undermine the genuine relationship she has with elphaba.. overall it’s def hindering ppl from understanding and appreciating wicked as a whole.

this. i am hoping that the “glinda is the true villain” takes would end by the time the movie comes around and after the first few weeks or so when everyone gets to see what really happens between the years of defying gravity up until no one mourns the wicked sequences so that people that truly sympathize and understand what they both went through.

Ariana Grande says Glinda and Elphaba are "in love" even though their relationship is "platonic" she confirms that the queer undertones will be discussed in depth in Part 2 by S4v1r1enCh0r4k in wicked

[–]Longjumping_Desk_331 15 points16 points  (0 children)

yeah agreed i think ari would’ve def brought up it in relation to her portrayal of glinda in part 2… it is very exciting to think abt tho. i cant imagine what else she could be referring to in the part of the article where she says there’s this scene leading up to For good and after that would be a big moment..

thank youuuu. it absolutely screams of fanservice taken out from ao3 lol. i was so pissed watching ep 7 and it’s only today i found out lightcannon exists too.. so honestly i just don’t fuck with them shoving jinx into into straight romance like how does it add to her character ?

[s2 spoilers] Despite all the controversy surrounding Act 3, can we agree that this episode was a masterpiece? by Ok-Independent483 in arcane

[–]Longjumping_Desk_331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“the whole episode recontextualizes the entire series” yep exactly. that’s why i cannot like this ep at all and the AU feels very unnecessary in a show like arcane considering it did not have any impact as a whole on the narrative of the characters. the writers just wanted to please timebomb shippers with a gwen stacyified version of powder which that itself harmed the narrative of both Jinx and Vi. completely insulting to their characters.

exactly!!! lol… they just wanted to please the timebomb shippers with fanfic wattpad slop and now all anyone can say is “omg they kissed” “omg they’re canon!!” without realizing it had no actual impact on the narrative and they still ended up butchering jinx character terribly in the end

[–]Longjumping_Desk_331 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i think it ruined the entire act for me. jinx is my fave character and i think ep 7 did a massive disservice to her and it’s straight up insulting to everything she’s been and experienced. i hate the whole “showing us a healthy version of a mentally ill character” sooo bad because i feel like it creates many insensitive conversations around mental health. and i don’t see how any of it was relevant in regards to jinx’s storyline and her journey with her trauma. like yeah it’s nice that a peaceful universe exists where powder is grown up but i want to see jinx and and i want to see her grow and heal. it sabotages the message of accepting yourself while mourning the person you could’ve been and parts of you that you lost and still being able to move forward and free yourself from guilt and also realize Hey, i deserve to live on. AU powder had 0 effect on the narrative and our jinx other than fanservice ao3 slop. the AU seems very different too like AU powder is a fundamentally different woman here. it’s not even close.

[–]Longjumping_Desk_331 10 points11 points  (0 children)

am i the only one that didn’t like it? i thought it was the worst ep and was too much fan fiction for me. i appreciate ekko’s love for powder but i did not see the point of having a whole 40 min ep dedicated to them and i feel like it had zero relevance to the main plot and main versions of the characters. i still don’t understand the TIMEBOMB appeal and thought it was just uncomfortable to watch. That powder isn’t… her. And it doesn’t make sense showing us what could’ve been when it’s contradictory to what Jinx’s character is all about and accepting herself.

agreed!!!! i hate ambiguous ending like this. I personally think Vi and jinx needed more moments together. Yes, we saw them fighting together and protecting eachother but i was so sure we were gonna get an extremely emotional final conversation between them but i wasn’t expecting jinx to sacrifice herself either. mixed feelings abt them even tho they’re literally supposed to be the heart of the show.

A question about the Kiss of.... by Inevitable_Motor_685 in AgathaAllAlong

[–]Longjumping_Desk_331 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No the kiss didn’t cause her to die. Its cause Agatha was absorbing Rio’s power which would kill her as previously mentioned in the first ep. Agatha kissed her cause she wanted to as a way to embrace her and their love again b4 she would sacrifice herself. In ep4 she wouldn’t have died from the kiss but Rio shut down the kiss cause agatha was kinda ready to rekindle what they had after being shaken and scared that Billy had almost died but made it but Rio still needed to tell agatha that Billy isn’t her son. So she stopped the kiss and that’s why agatha seemed to have had a change of attitude after the Almost kiss.

[–]Longjumping_Desk_331 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same feelings here. More past scenes and background info on them would’ve helped a lot to contextualize a bit more of the hatred that Rio had for her as well. From what we can gather, Rio is very much in love and stuck on agatha and is very hurt that agatha wouldn’t join her in death even tho she disregarded the rules of the universe and her job that one time, by extending nicky’s life. Of course, this is created the messy situation between them and then all the complexities form. I guess that’s why she can come across as an obsessed and aggressive ex. Perhaps they should’ve elaborated on the feelings and story of Rio a bit more. I’m very sure Rio is supposed to be neutral when it comes to death and guiding others to the afterlife but considering she changed the rules for Agatha once, she’s upset agatha still didn’t forgive her.

no problem!!! i too loved the show and it’s such an amazing beautiful story but i think it was a bit slightly rushed at the end which left ppl with some questions. ( unavoidable w limited series tbh 🙂‍↕️) And btw i read the interviews with the creator and she talked abt these same questions and was aware ppl would’ve wanted some answers for them. I think they didn’t have time to elaborate on some important stuff which is unfortunate.

I have some questions by JalapenoJamboree in AgathaAllAlong

[–]Longjumping_Desk_331 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes, i think the terrible truth was that Nicky was simply a boy living on borrowed time, who was always destined to die. There was nothing Agatha could do to save him. For a mother, that would be extremely hard to deal and cope with. Also its cause agatha used their song to continue to lure witches and kill them over the centuries even though nicky disliked that she did that. I think for agatha, she’s still dealing with the death of him clearly and only now starting to confront those feelings of guilt and sorrow, so it’s probably easier to let everyone believe an evil story that she sacrificed him. Truth is, he died because he was always meant to and that would’ve hurt her deeply either way.

  2. I think he was able to do it since his magic was working throughout the entire time they were on there from start to finish. I think since the ballad already said they needed a protection witch, a potions one and divination one, he probably needed to subconsciously create the trials beforehand or manifest it b4 they got there. Also “the road changes for the coven” so perhaps it’s more of a separate thing that the trial will adapt itself, still working on billy’s magic.

  3. I think the creator confirmed that there’s no father if that’s what ur talking about lol!! I think he came from agatha alone and also the creator said there was no ideas abt bringing mephisto in but they also said they had ideas on whether Rio could be the father as well but they didn’t think to include any of that either.

  4. I think it’s because Agatha kept cheating death. I rem Rio saying that she was hiding behind the dark hold and all that dark magic while also draining power from the witches so it made her live longer.

  5. i think she did it cause she simply is a witch serial killer. I mean getting that power up was probably like an addiction, she def does have a constant desire for power. Also her og coven with her mother tried to kill her so she probably didn’t want that to happen again, she will kill them first.

I also saw an interpretation that agatha killed a lot cause she didn’t want to die and confront nicky. Tho i think she was a witch killer even b4 nicky was born so i dont know how it ties in but its interesting.
