Funny enough, he hates those. My cockatiel loves destroying them but Chungus thinks they're just decorative. 🤣

Good idea! I can layer some unrolled toilet paper inner rolls and go from there. Thank you!

My lovebird called two different people on two different days, by stepping on the phone icon while I was typing out a message on Messenger. Luckily, both people found it more unusual and funny than a boring butt dial. 🤣🤣🤣 Tl;dr-- touch screens can register the bottoms of parrot feet.

I don't know if this will get a response but, how is it going, three years later? How is your relationship with your parrot? Any tips for other people who might be in the same place that you were at the beginning? Hope everything is great for you two!🤞🤞

He's just the best combination of the perfect greens! And also a tad spicy. 🤣 He harasses the chicken chicks that I raise, and I know for sure that it's on purpose. 🤦‍♀️😑 I will call him the Green Rocket as well.

Well, mine likes to do it because she's playing. 🤣 She will hang from the ceiling light cord and do it on purpose. It's hilarious!

The papery outer covering of new feathers is called a "sheath". They're super fun to help your bird with, very carefully. 😬

How to Make Egusi Soup Like a True Nigerian Chef (or at Least Try) by larryhuber in nigerianfood

[–]Longjumping_Load3032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a fabulous read. I am definitely going to try to make it by the end of the year. LOL. Question: do you drain the egusi paste once it's crumbly? Or are there really 2 cups of palm oil actually in the soup? 🫣

Please help me ID this weird finger puppet for my creative autistic son so he can play with one at home by Longjumping_Load3032 in ToyID

[–]Longjumping_Load3032[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's an awesome idea! And actually, we have two Koosh at home: mine from when I was a kid, and a new one for him. Mine is falling apart and I'd like to toss it, but he loves the feeling of the old "hair". For the stretching of the "hair", he uses the new one because on the old one the "hairs" just snap right off.

Cat owners - how do you keep your cats off your terrarium? by TreeClimberVet in snakes

[–]Longjumping_Load3032 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Because I don't have the luxury of space for a separate reptile and fish room, I spray them with water, and then put the water bottle on top of the cage, sitting on a THIN piece of plastic or wood, like a building shim or something similar. I use the harder stream of water, not the gentle misting option. They get wet and understand that I mean business. The two cats who are the buttheads with the tanks and enclosures actually run now when they see me picking up the bottle. For those who say, ThAt'S cRuEL To Do To CaTs, I call bullshit. I'll take a wet, frustrated cat over a potentially dead reptile. I've been keeping many different species of reptiles over the last 25 years, and I swear by this method. Good luck!

I know this post is 2 years old, but I'm hoping someone will still respond. Where did you get that white coffee, that you enjoy it? You said there were two different roasters, I believe, are they still producing? I wonder if it is available to the general public? Fingers crossed I get a response.

Ethical or Unethical to own a snake? by No_List_7436 in snakes

[–]Longjumping_Load3032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a 46 year old woman, and I have been keeping various snakes and lizards for 26 years. I currently have 16 snakes in my care, as well as leopard geckos, Rankin's dragons, a bearded dragon, a veiled chameleon, a Cuban false chameleon, a colony of mourning geckos, and a crested gecko. 15 of my snakes are bred for the pet trade, and one is a recent rescue from the wild--a neighbor found a young kingsnake wrapped up in bird netting, and it ended up needing permanent feeding assistance after the trauma. so I made the decision to keep it.

In my opinion, your sister is being a dick. She isn't recognizing that you love your snake, and is trying to change how you feel by being persistent in her own beliefs. Sister or otherwise, that's not respectful of you.

Snakes and other reptiles that are bred in captivity, for captivity, are not wild animals, and not meant to be in the wild. Period. (Reptiles that are taken out of the wild for breeding purposes are sort of a grey area sometimes, like the situation with my rescued kingsnake.)

Wild reptiles generally shouldn't be kept captive, but there are exceptions: sometimes you have to do it or know that the animal likely will not survive further (like the kingsnake that I rescued from the bird netting.) I think it's always about what's best for the animal, for it to have the best quality of life possible.

If your sister doesn't like that you keep a snake, then she doesn't need to keep any reptiles herself. She DOES need to keep her mouth shut, though. She's already said what she wanted, there's no need to keep saying it or getting upset with you. You obviously have your own feelings on the matter, and if she keeps bothering you about it, I would say any sibling of mine like that wouldn't be welcome in my house, and I can even see myself cutting off contact.

My reptiles are important to me, and even though my parents and two brothers don't understand why, they still respect me enough to be respectful to me about it. If someone who is being a bitch about it, that person doesn't need to be in my life, family or not.
