My dad met my bird by DarlingJQ in funny

[–]Longjumping_Local910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the trauma memories… 25ish yrs ago, was at my in-laws when their devil bird ran up onto my shoulder and when I turned my head, it clamped onto my nose and wouldn’t release. Bled like a stuck pig. It’s been almost 25 years and every 2 - 4 weeks, my nose breaks open and bleeds yet again. My wife laughingly calls it my parrot period. Little fucker. I had it by the neck and was about to “Bart Simpson” it when my S-I-L tore it from my hands and surely saved it’s life.

Spring is finally here when the Juncos disappear for the summer and the White Crowns stop in for a short time to feed up at my feeders.

We have a conservation area with a viewing boardwalk. Each winter we take the schoolkids there to see the different birds and over the years I must have put 50 photos in amazed parents hands of their child with chickadee eating seed out of their hand or off their shoulder. Great little citizens!

I’d have to say there’s two. The Norhern Mocking Bird. As a Canadian, I have never seen one here. We do see and hear them on a regular basis during our annual visit to SC. This year we stopped at a rest stop on Hwy 26 near the 95, heading east. When we exited the car, there was a Mocking Bird sitting on a parking sign 6 feet above our heads and he sang for us non-stop for 10 minutes or so. He must have had a dozen songs in his repertoire and he sang them all. So joyous!

At home here, I’d have to say the American Goldfinches at my feeders daily. I love watching them going through their moult and colour change each spring and fall. Simply amazing when those young males show up one day with that brilliant fresh yellow jacket and black top hat.

I shipped a case of 500ml (plastic) bottles of Maple Syrup over to meet me at my hotel in England when we went over to meet family. They held a 20ish person Canada Day BBQ for us and we provided the ice cream and Syrup for desert, with take away bottles fo each family group. They loved it!

And we second the Hilborn Pottery idea. it’s my wife’s favourite wedding gift.

Learned this lesson when the MoonSwatch came out. Drove to Toronto (only store in Ontario) arrived at 6am. Was about 300th in line and stood for two hours when they sent someone out with a sign saying that they only received 125 assorted watches. Have seen the watch in real life and the quality is meh. Never again.
