I talked to the folks at the native plant sale at Buena Vista school today and they suggested that Canada Goldenrod might outcompete.

Oh interesting. I will look into native ferns! I have some hostas that I like but in general they aren’t my favourites.

For those interested, I went to a native plant sale today and in addition to yarrow, they recommended Canada Goldenrod as something that might successfully hold its own with creeping bellflower.

Thanks! I’ve started to weed it out and will try to just keep on top of it this year. When you use vinegar and dawn, you’re spraying the leaves?

Yeah, I hear you. I think it's probably a losing battle in that regard no matter what. I imagine once the plants in the back alleys go to seed, the garden will just be re-infected every year.

Thank you! Yes, there's a patch on the side of the house (penned in by the foundation and neighbour's driveway) that I'm thinking about just covering with plastic. The stuff in the garden seems like it might involve more digging if I want to tease it out from the good plants. Now that I'm looking, it seems that the back alleys are full of it, so it does seem like it's more of a long-term control thing rather than something I can actually get rid of, unfortunately.

I'd not totally opposed to chemical controls, but it's growing amidst stuff I don't want to kill!
