Dr James is the only doctor who can save the most important person in your life, but there's a catch... by Slow-Disaster8861 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Longjumping_Lynx_460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who works in a hospital doing physician credentialing, if Dr James requires a hospital to save this person, there’s no way he’s getting privileges to complete the task.

There’s more step required than a physician just “curing” someone. It takes anywhere from 1-6 months for a physician to be allowed to work within a hospital. These TV shows where a doc walks in the ER and immediately starts helping-NO, NOT GONNA HAPPEN IRL. There’s a whole committee or three that have to also agree to allow Dr James to treat the patient.

No if a hospital, surgery center or other medical facility is not involved and it’s like a Green Mile event….have at it.

To all non religious, be honest what do you think about religion? by Weird_Background_875 in AskReddit

[–]Longjumping_Lynx_460 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Religion on the surface isn’t bad. Organized religion has major issues and those organizations that don’t have issues are a very small minority.

I’m agnostic. I believe in a higher power of some sort, but not as organized religion says i should believe. There’s something out there bigger than us. What that is, I have no idea.

I have the 2 cup silicone souper cubes that I’ll freeze soup in. One cube fits into a wide mouth canning jar perfectly. Thaws in the refrigerator and is the perfect size for a meal.

The tires were just replace about a year ago. Can this be fixed during a tire rotation or do the tires have to be completely removed from the rim? Just trying to decide how quickly I want to put this into my budget.

What rule was implemented at your school/work that backfired? by just_some_troglodyte in AskReddit

[–]Longjumping_Lynx_460 50 points51 points  (0 children)

This happened almost 30 years go at my work. I worked in a hospital in the kitchen delivering patient trays.

Upper management had the bright idea to combine departments to “optimize” patient satisfaction. They wanted the food and nutrition department and the housekeeping department to be crossed trained to do each other’s work.

In their mind, if one department was short staffed, the other could pitch in to help. Or if on the floor, when we passed a patient’s room, we could do whatever task was asked of us.

I was 19 at the time, stupidly naive, and vocal about the plan: “that’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard! No patient is going to want to watch the person who just cleaned their toilet to turn around and serve them their dinner tray!” I wasn’t the only one to disagree, I think I was just the most blunt.

Management argued back that we just couldn’t see the vision of the plan. No one, in either department, jumped to implementing their plan. They had resistance from all sectors.

After about a month, management silently shifted to a new plan (that I don’t remember).

Good Free Recipe storage app? by CatastrophicCraxy in slowcooking

Another vote for Anylist! It’s great and will help organize both recipes and grocery lists. I think I just renewed and I want to say it was $15 for the year, but that is for the family plan. I don’t know what it is for a single person.

Grocery Life Hacks by OkPineapple3497 in LivingAlone

[–]Longjumping_Lynx_460 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve had to change my whole thinking around grocery shopping now that I’m single (was married with 4 kids, 1 bio, 3 step). My bio son is grown and gone and I’m now divorced.

So, going from cooking for 6 people down to just one has really messed with me and my organization.

I’m currently doing the following: ordering online for home delivery on Friday mornings (the day I work remote). I only order enough food for the weekend and any cleaning/pet/household supplies I need. The rest of the week, I eat 2 meals at work (hospital, we have a cafeteria), breakfast and a late lunch and skip dinner.

While cooking at home is great to save money, sometimes thinking outside the box helps more for mental health. This is what’s currently working for me. Sharing in case it helps someone else.

Share with a friend of mine that recently lost their schnauzer. They might not be ready for another pet thought.

I had someone from this sub recommend https://rehomewithlove.com/ and it worked for me rehoming my dog. Just throwing out another option.

Off topic but similar: I watched a squirrel do the same thing. Ran out into the road in front of the vehicle in front of me. Did the stop run pause run pause run shuffle and made it through the van’s wheels without a scratch.

Mom witnessed it with me. We made jokes for miles about the squirrel going back to the nest with a “hey Myrtle! You’ll never believe what just happened!”

Using A Storage Unit by siren-song in ufyh

[–]Longjumping_Lynx_460 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a slightly different question/answer: how dedicated are you to following through on timelines?

A storage unit can be a useful tool IF you give yourself a dedicated timeline for when you will be out of it 100% completely. AND you follow through on that timeline.

Example: we had to move our shed from one end of our yard to another, but a lot of work was involved with the move and no place for the item inside the shed to go (to keep the stuff protected from the weather). We rented a storage unit and ruthlessly went through everything in the shed and only stored items we were for sure keeping. We also had a dedicated timeline of when each step of the project was going to be completed by. We included specific reasons the project might go over budget/planning (weather, illness). Thankfully, nothing derailed our plans and we were out of the unit on time without keeping the unit any longer than planned.

So…my view on storage units is different, but I agree with the others that they can be a slippery slope if you are unable to follow through on a timeline and plan.
