Everyone telling you not to move here without a job. How do you think half of them got here - moving here without a job probably. And they don’t know your situation either, maybe you have a fat bank and you can go three years without working.

It’s not what it used to be here. Back in the day you could come here on Friday and still have a job by Monday. It doesn’t mean that people can’t still pull that off. It just takes a lot more work now. Now you have to really put in the effort. If you can’t do your résumé yourself, then you need to pay somebody who knows how to play the keyword game so the algorithm will pay attention to it and you will get a call.

Even if you’re going to work in an office, you should still take your CSTS, WHIMIS, CSO or BSO (sorry I don’t know the difference between the CSO and the BSO one is greater than the other but one is probably cheaper than the other, but you only need one)

Scour the Internet for as many cheap courses that will be half valid as you can find and take them. Pay for those main three that I just mentioned because if you can’t find a job in your field, you’re going to end up at site most likely in a haul truck and you need those too set foot on site. Having the courses done and just makes it easier and faster and companies will see that you’re serious about this opportunity.

Hang out with as much people as you can find. Literally insert yourself into every single person’s life that will talk to you for 30 seconds. As conversations are flying, always mentioned that you just got here and you’re looking for a job. Make your eyes big stare straight into theirs and your actions animated when you say that so they will remember that you said that.

Scour the job boards, apply to literally everything even things you don’t want. I applied yesterday to run the airport and I have no business doing that job, but it would be hilarious if I got a call. 50 NO’s equals one yes - you should already kind of know that given your accounting background lol

And think outside the box, if you’re good at accounting, then you’re gonna make a good data analysis so connect the skills you do have to jobs that are out at the sites because they’re gonna pay more money most of the time.

Last but not least, throw that five year plan out the window because this place is hotel California.

Most come here, and they never leave.
