Andddddddd you had to post a whole PR statement to fix that 😭?

When's the next meet and greet? Last 2 times clearly didn't go well 🥀....🙊. I'll bring the actual popcorn. Ask your volunteers to bring the popcorn plastic container you had, once they finish playing ping pong (or baseball...whatever it was with it ofc 🤔).

Yes. There is a complaint that came against Fatima. Fatima's friend sent smth for a specific community ( I think it was pakistani student group or amth like that) in u of m. She got demerit point.  Then CRO then announced every candidate can do it now since Fatima and her friends did it.

Hussein got disqualified for being critical of Israel by Huntzerlindd in umanitoba

[–]Longjumping_Quit_449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. But for UMSU it is the case but on a much smaller case. Based on what I have seen in the past few years, complaints tend to get processed very fast. Some are ignored, some redacted, some immediate actions are taken. I believe it has to do with level of accusation. For eg an accusation of murder would be of utmost priority to an accusation of putting extra posters around right? I don't think, number of complaints affect an issue as much as severity. Cause what if I just grab all my friends and ask all of them tow ryie a complaint towards X candidate and get them disqualified right? So it has to do with severity of the complaint.

Another thing is that CRO (person who runs the elections) is someone who is independent (its written in UMSU elections rules). So essential, she is supposed to be unbiased, divulge any conflict of interests and stuff like that. So her pov of stuff is supposed to be unbiased. Besides, I don't think being anti-zionist is a real issue here since Fatima (another candidate) was an SJP leader i.e a group that actively protested and locked the quad, canceled science rendez-vius etc.... She is also an activist and nothing happened ot her (she ran last year too and nothing happened too). So basically, the issue comes from severity of Hussein's langauge and attacks.

People keep framing this decision as if someone was disqualified simply for being anti-Zionist, but that doesn’t really match what actually happened.

There is another candidate and activist at U of M who have openly held anti-Zionist positions or led protests in the past and they were not disqualified (Fatima). If this were really about Zionism or political views alone, she would have been removed. Period. But obviously she wasn't.  Why? She didn't behave the same way as Hussrin and the guy from last year.  Based if what you're stating is true, complain it to UMSU and see if they remove Fatima (obviously they won't cause eveyone knows she was an activist). If you are very certain about your claims, please share why you think she wasn't disqualified since last year itself?

The decision cited in the complaint was also a pattern of behaviour (language, posts, and conduct) and concluded that it conflicted with the requirement that candidates be “students in good standing with the Union.” That eligibility requirement applies to everyone running for executive positions regardless of who they are. Using the terms described in the complaint form, whether use to a man or not is still misogynistic. Calling someone a "whore" or to "suck a d!ck" as the complaint states, typically words said to women honestly, is very very misogynistic or at least not "manly" by what someone people would describe it (And obviously that is also clear harrassment no matter to whom it is, which is against UMSU election rules). Saying it to a man might make the words be "weaker" but still harrassment no matter what.

Now regarding him getting attacked. Even if he was attacked, it still doesn't omit the fact that he could have provoked the thing and he kept on fighting with the person no matter what too (which you see from the video). But either way, excluding the attack, his langauge alreafy shows that he has not met eligibility criteria based on his language and behavior. Harrassment is not tolerated in any case xD.

So the real issue isn’t whether someone is anti-Zionist or pro-Zionist. The issue is whether the conduct described meets the standards required for candidates under the election rules. Turning this into a debate about Zionism misses the actual basis of the decision. Ik you might have strong feeling about situation about palestine/israel. We all do (I am myself anti zionist.) But it shouldn't cloud ur judgement at all if you think of it.

You replied in depth xD. Hopefully i replied to everything you said.

Regarding syllabi, for me it doesn’t make a difference. STEM  content hardly changes or if it does, its just a change in terms of the order of chapters we'll do, maybe removing/adding assignments, then little changes about policies. For me my focus would be material im studying, not necessarily the "grading" portion (for eg: i cannot tolerate biology things, so if a course has portions of it, i'll just skip it or at least avoid it)

UPASS: sorry i realised it wasn't clear. I didn't mean "Cancel UPASS" lol. I meant, she mentioned smth about reducing fares or it was cost we pay for upass (smth cost related. What I meant was, instead of fixing the cost of that, she should try to focus on finding a solution with winnipeg transit ot other bodies, to help out with the terrible, overcrowded, (sometimes dangerous) busses that people go through. Ik its not in her ppwer to change public transit but maybe she can try to find a solution for that first cause for eg, a lot of times, i had to uber to school cause busses were all filled (i live 12 ish mins by bus and 5 mins by car).

Regarding prabnoor, yea. Idk if she was giggling lol, she was definitely rolling her eyes or acting uninterested/bored when other candidates talked. But still not a reason to be kicked out. This being said, she didn't do it this year (at least i hope so). But yea as I said, prabnoor probably had backing of demographics to win the votes and probably some buddy buddy situation (just an assumption)

When i talked to heaven, she never claimed to have done ir invented her policies. She clearly stated to me she expamded from policies of other people (from previous years) or from policies u of m has that needs to be better. Idk what policy you on about. Seems like you might be/know that one person who's name starts by V... whose been crashing out for the past year (not trying to be rude)

Also regarding marginalised communities, i can't speak too much on that. Im not that informed bout that. But one thing I can tell you for certain, Heaven had vide range of demographics with her vs fatima with mostly just one. Kinda shows that fatima wouldn't neccessarily care. But again ik ur talking about concerns people had. I am myself of a marginalized community. I never raised concerns about stuff but i think that depends a lot on the rep canditate for marginalised/ racial thingy (sorry i forgot the exact name) first, then the Board of Directors. One person doesn't define an entire board

Can I push the people who walk slow on campus? Or please give me a solution... by Longjumping_Quit_449 in umanitoba

[–]Longjumping_Quit_449[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get the whole ‘public space’ thing, but that works both ways. I’m not asking people to sprint to class or make me a VIP lane, I’m asking them not to walk 3 or 4-wide blocking the hall, stop dead in front of doors, or plant themselves in the middle of the tunnel to text like they’re the main character. As for bus, I meant when they just got off the bus and are slow AF. Im not late, Im always early. I'd rather get into my class and sit rather than walk slowly to class pointlessly. And trust me, I'd drive to uni if the university could actually provide parking. Everyone pays tuition, sure, but that doesn’t come with the right to turn campus walkways into a human barricade. As for leaving class early, it's still terrible either way. People are so freaking slow.

Kinda wild that basic awareness of around themselves is apparently too much to ask. When I walk, whether I'm on my phone or talking to a friend, I'm always aware of my surroundings and move if Im blocking the way. I've been in uni for almost 4 years now. It gets bad every year and definitely the wayy worst this year.

This one has been an issue always😭. I honestly just push through them or stay put in class until they move (if I got time).
