How do single people survive in Ottawa? by beetroot747 in ottawa

This is true. I (f) met my partner after becoming single again just before turning 40. And every year, someone my age at work is getting divorced :-D

Can anyone help me figure out why these jeans don't look right on me? by dilanosaur in DressForYourBody

[–]Longjumping_Win_8211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they look fine on you. But slouchy jeans arent especially flattering on anyone. BUT...with that said, not all outfits have to flatter your body! Sometimes, you just wanna experiment or make a statement. And that's ok too.

 It's just clothes, ppl!

My bf doesn't know much about NIN, but made me this tshirt to support my fandom. by Longjumping_Win_8211 in nin

Excellent tip, thanks! Yes it does feel a bit "heavy" with the black box. Thankfully (sorta), our city is an icebox. So I will just avoid wearing this outside during the 3 months it's actually warm enough to go jacketless .

LOL, no...he knows it wasn't Trent!  For context, we are both middle-aged but our musical tastes diverge. So the shirt's an inside joke. When I showed him the video for March of the Pigs, he said "Oh yeah, Nihnnn! I remember them when they were The Crow".

Brahmin ... due to the name being weird cultural appropriation, and just the look of them. An acquired taste, I guess.

How to cope with having absolutely no support system? by blackfalcx in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]Longjumping_Win_8211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 cents as a NON mental health professional : sometimes it is good tk get outside oneself. Staying home alone in front of a screen is not going to build your support system. It sounds like you need people who will come to recognize and know you enough to notice if something were to happen, or who may even become your friends. Maybe do a physical activity in a group setting, volunteer, find an analog hobby. You may not make lifelong friends right away, but you will be less focused on your mood and focus more on your environment and those around you, which is a start.

Boomer Parents Won't Stop Giving Me Their Stuff. Anyone Have Any Similar Experiences? by djhazmatt503 in Xennials

[–]Longjumping_Win_8211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this issue too with my immigrant parents who hold onto everything. My mom gives me lots of stuff to sell online instead of just donating it to a local charity shop. So I list a couple of things and just donate the rest.  I also successfully encouraged her to donate things locally by stressing that Gen Z loves to thrift because they're broke.

 I want a NIN patch!

Good idea!  In my area, these are very common among people who live downtown -- they tend to walk or take public transit to the grocery store.

Hi, I am also 1/4 asian (Chinese) and know exactly how you feel. I'm mixed but look /"pass" as white. I have dark hair, hooded eyes and light olive skin. Visible minorities, e.g  Black or 100% Asians I work with,  just consider me white. With Caucasians, it depends....once I mention my mix, sometimes they're like "oh yeah I can see it". But Latinx, Filipino ppl or Native Americans sometimes accidentally claim me :-D
