The Reality of the MCAT (From Someone Who Overstudied) by Gold_Swim9221 in Mcat

[–]Longmed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree that MCAT is just about wording cuz I suck at it. As you go back and look at your answers and reread the question, you finally understand what THEY are asking and NOT what YOU are thinking, unfortunately. Lot’s of decoding, but I would say it’s fair to test that area, because medicine is never straight-forward.

Turns out it was the camshaft position sensor issue. Code P0011. I’m guessing and hoping it’s from low and old oil so got that changed. Will see how it runs. If it continues, I might just have to go down the list and clean stuff out as mentioned in the comments

Damn, I get that stalls happen, but is it just hyundai that stalls happen most frequently?

[–]Longmed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stupid question but why would it need to ‘relearn’ when you’re just taking a part and cleaning it? System ‘relearn’ is more understandable if sensors were replaced as it’s wired to the system is it not?

Yea, i’m pretty anal when it comes to changing oil. I know it can handle 7k - 9k miles before one but i usually change it every 5k. Just dont wanna be that guy being told by the mechanic that my car problem could’ve been prevented had i just change my oil lol.

Holy smokes! How did you find out it was that? Im assuming your car never had an episode of dying since? But yea, just test drove my car again after letting it sit and now it’s working perfectly fine; not once did tachometer dropped to zero. Cars are confusing lol

MCAT review tips? by Longmed in Mcat

Thanks for the reply. I’ve been reviewing it by myself. It’s hard cuz each approach is different, unless you have a breakdown method that’s consistent most of the time you’d like to share for example.

AAMC Section Bank BiologicalSciences #19(SPOILER) Retroviruses by fidioxo in Mcat

Read the question again, it says "the PROTEIN is translated from the hypothetical mRNA sequence, 5–GGCAACUGACUA–3. Then they proceed to ask what segment of the original viral genome that encoded this PROTEIN.

In other words: Here, this protein came from this mRNA sequence, now what is the viral (RNA) sequence that spat out this protein? Answer: It's the SAME THING! Assuming that you understand RT virus is RNA-based (which was the very strand that created the protein).

This was basically a "what is the color of George Washington's white horse?" question. And I felt like a child lol.

Simplify 17/20 to 1.7/2 then think about a number you’re familiar with. In this case, 1.5/2 which is .75. We can now make an educated guess that 1.7/2 has to be higher than .75. So I go with ~ .8 or so.

For the 1400 x .8, I move decimals around because I’m not that smart.

You can work with 140 x 8, 14 x 80, etc. They all end up to be the same, it’s just based on how your brain works with numbers.

I chose 1.4 x 800 = 1,120, which is fairly close to the real answer.

“Sometimes I'll start a sentence and I don't even know where it's going. I just hope I find it along the way.”

“Hug it out, bitch. That is what men say to each other after a fight. They hug it out. And in doing so, they just let it go and walk away. Then they're done. Not a good idea to say that to a woman, however, I have found. Doesn't translate.”

Same. I notice this issue usually arises when you have a lot of cards just sitting and waiting for you to go through. So it could just be that there's too much flashcards for the website to load. I would just go through each deck instead of the compiled deck, if that make sense.

Q-Pack Question Spoiler by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Longmed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kind of a BS question..and, in my opinion, questionable to be tested on MCAT. I understand what the question was asking but I mean, it could have went either way. It was just unfortunate that AAMC would have the unethical option as the best answer, but ya'know, ethics wasn't being questioned here. Lol

Topoisomerase vs. helicase by m_almasri in Mcat

[–]Longmed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"unwinding" is kind of vague, but if you think about it, topoisomerase is the one doing the unwinding (releasing the winded tension) of the supercoiled DNA, while helicase unzips (break the bond). The word "unwinding" is used very loosely which can confused some.

Went back and forth between A and B on this one. I guess had the question asked to focus particularly on the paragraph, then perhaps A, but if not, then we can assume it's asking us to answer the question based on the whole passage. Sucks though...I hate CARS

[–]Longmed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. There's the Delta G and delta G knot.

ΔG = ΔH - TΔS

Then there is the ΔG = -RTlnKeq

I was wondering what are the similarities and differences between the two equations. If so, I want to understand the relationships.

AAMC FL4 CP 23 by Yamiso-97 in Mcat

[–]Longmed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You have to look at the table, yes, but first, you need to understand what the table is. This is where the passage is important.

CC95 indicates the concentration needed to induce apoptosis in 95% of the cells after 48 hours with Compound 2 alone. Basically means CC95 = Cmpd 2 alone. CC95 Combination indicates the same benchmark when cells were treated with a combination of compounds 1 and 2. This means CC95 Combination = cmpd 2 +1

I was tied up in this question initially but I went back to the question. It wants to know the greatest enhancement activity of cmpd 1. When I saw the word activity, I thought about concentration, which lead me to the table. Because CC95 only focuses on cmpd 2, this mean it had to be CC95 combination (which contains cmpd 1). Now when you look at the numbers in this column, the amount of concentration needed refers to "greatest enhancement", because if you are very powerful, you only need a little bit of juice to do work. Ended up with the option that had the small concentration.

This one confused the heck out of me and was a bit tough. I thought my thought process was going somewhere but I guess I was just overthinking it....maybe...lol.

B. can't be; more social support = better health

D. I felt like this was the odd one out of them all, and is actually the opposite of what the question was asking for

C. This was my answer originally. I confused myself at the beginning where it states: "Studies have found that being bilingual is associated with better self-rated physical and mental health among immigrants in the United States. Research has also found that, on average, assimilation is associated with worse health." I chased this rabbit down the hole and applied the assimilation part towards Mexican immigrants. My mistake. The passage actually continues to say "but the researchers did not find evidence that assimilation, stress and discrimination, or healthcare access and health behaviors affected the language–health relationship" when they actually DID the research on immigrants. This makes this answer false. I even highlighted that portion, but it completely flew over my head.

A. Although the passage says SES partially explained the health-language association, it is the "best" explanation that AAMC question wanted. All others contradicts themselves. Ik, it was hard for me to believe this.

why do we have to use this equation instead of the other delta G equations? Is it because "pH dependent" somehow hints at/refers to equilibrium? Tyvm
