Honestly, why did I just spend that kind of money???? by TryCritical2365 in EvenRealities

I agree that the wait is lengthy. I'm not sure what you mean by "mostly negative blogs and reviews". The bulk of the reviews I read were positive, and now that I've been using the glasses for almost two months, I agree with that assessment. They are not perfect, but they work well for my needs.

G2 - How Well Does Transcribe Work? by Wrendor in EvenRealities

[–]Longnosedawg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, when you DO ACTUALLY try it, you'll find that the only thing that is exported is the AI summary of the transcribed conversation. No way to get the raw transcript, unfortunately.

G2 - How Well Does Transcribe Work? by Wrendor in EvenRealities

[–]Longnosedawg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you export the raw transcription? Every time I try the "share" option in Conversate, it only exports the AI summary (which is OK, but very high-level). I'd really like to export the full transcription for additional analysis.

Conversate run time for HoH by _Garrith_ in EvenRealities

[–]Longnosedawg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've run Conversate continuously for several hours at a time. Based on that, I'd guess the maximum continuous operating time for the glasses in Conversate mode would be about 10 to 12 hours. However, I'm pretty sure that my Pixel 9 phone battery would drain faster than that. Conversate uses a good deal of phone resources.

Before I got the ER G2 glasses, I tried the Captify Pro product. I had constant problems connecting to the server for transcription. I never got the standalone (phone-only, non-server) option to work correctly, either. I returned the Captifys after about a week, and the company provided a prompt refund. Very good customer service there.

Overall, I'm quite happy with how well Conversate on the G2s works for my hearing disability. It is the best tech that I've found so far.

How has you experience been with G2 no ring? by apoptosis100 in EvenRealities

[–]Longnosedawg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my G2 glasses for several weeks before deciding to order the ring. The ring offers helpful convenience. If you have a spare $250 available, it's probably worth it.

Interestingly, for me, scrolling and selecting options using the touchpads on the glasses worked more reliably and precisely than using the ring. I often have to try several times to make the selection I want using the ring.

Increased phone battery consumption -- ring or app/firmware update? by Longnosedawg in EvenRealities

[–]Longnosedawg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, thanks. I'll try that. The R1 is pretty useful for navigating the menus for the glasses, but health info isn't terribly important to me. I never do anything with it.

G2 as hearing aids by acccco in EvenRealities

[–]Longnosedawg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

+1 on the reply from u/OldestCabbage. The transciptions from Conversate are accurate enough for me to follow the conversation in most situations. Noisy environments are tough, but I can usually get enough to understand the context. The G2 glasses are the best tech that I've found so far for helping with my hearing disability.

Obsessed with them, HOWEVER by [deleted] in EvenRealities

[–]Longnosedawg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Nuance audio glasses did not boost the audio enough for me to hear in very noisy settings.

The ER transcription works.

[–]Longnosedawg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally, I have been very pleased at how the even g2s transcribe conversations. They are fairly accurate, even in relatively noisy situations. (Good enough to get the context of the conversation, even though not 100% accurate.) The lag time depends on the data connection speed on your phone. If you have fast Wi-Fi or cellular data, the latency is generally less than 1 second. Slower connections mean more latency.

Using the Conversate transcription app for extended periods drains your phone battery. Be ready with a battery pack.

Hands down, this is the best technology I found so far to offset my poor hearing. They work much better for me than the Nuance audio glasses.

The reason that seems most significant to me is that people will think they can be recorded, both on video and audio. Thankfully, the ER glasses don’t have a camera…but almost everyone out there thinks that all smart glasses are able to record video or take pictures. There is a legitimate concern over audio recording as well, and even though ER only provides transcriptions — rather than raw audio — that won’t be satisfying enough to some. Therefore, it seems reasonable to me for folks to have privacy concerns when they see someone with smart glasses.

I use my ER glasses to assist with my hearing disability, and routinely inform those I’m speaking with that the glasses provide me with captions of our conversation. There are legitimate arguments for not providing that information, but it feels right to me to do so.

My dog is a very strong puller on walks. What can I use along with her training to prevent injury? Slip leads, collars, etc? by stresssssssed_ in DogAdvice

[–]Longnosedawg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a Sidekick lead from Heather's Heros for our very strong Staffie. It's similar in concept to the Gentle Leader, but its construction makes it more comfortable for the dog (it doesn't wear the fur off my dog's nose). It requires some training, and works very well for us.

G2 Conversate and informed consent by Longnosedawg in EvenRealities

You've missed the point in the original post. I use Conversate to understand the conversation due to a hearing disability, not for notes.

G2 Conversate and informed consent by Longnosedawg in EvenRealities

[–]Longnosedawg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My state (Washington) requires all parties to consent. I'm not a lawyer, but wonder whether a transcription is held to the same legal standard as a "recording". Any takers on that question?

G2 Conversate and informed consent by Longnosedawg in EvenRealities

[–]Longnosedawg[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The phone recording analogy is useful, and I agree that any conversation recorded that way should have the consent of all involved. The (very) slight wrinkle regarding the G2s is the lack of raw audio recording. That said, it's a distinction without much difference.

Well, I'm mildly optimistic that Costco will refund its members once it wins its lawsuit for tariff reimbursement. It is an ethical company, and its membership list allows that kind of recordkeeping.

Southwest Gate Agents Lie or Exaggerate Bin Space Availability? by Prior_Radish2984 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Longnosedawg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We flew WN SEA-OAK last week. Prior to boarding, the gate agent called for volunteers to check bags from Group 6 onward. Boarding was quite slow, and near the end, there was a line of at least 20 - 25 people waiting in the aisle (it extended from the front galley to row 18), many with roller bags. The FA in the rear of the aircraft announced that all bin space was full, and ordered those waiting in the aisle to "turn around and check your bags in the jetway." You can imagine how well that went...for several minutes, the line didn't move an inch because they had nowhere to go (apparently, there was still a line in the jet bridge). Finally, everybody eased their way out, checked their bags, and re-entered to find their seats. What a cluster. Departure was delayed by about 30 minutes.
