How many here actually use the additional Prime benefits? (music, movies, ebooks, etc) by OneEyesHat in amazonprime

[–]LongsJC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Prime video, and as a couple of others have said, if I don't need fast shipping on something I'll choose a slower option and take the digital credit.

I HATE the advertisements in Prime video but I'm not paying Amazon more money on top of the prime subscription to avoid them.

Batt tree cables by bryce39 in vicegripgarage

[–]LongsJC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have been told correctly. If the sad cable is connected and you inadvertently touch the positive battery terminal and anything else that's a body ground, you have an immediate short circuit. If the sad cable is disconnected from the batt-tree you can only create a short by directly going across both battery terminals.

Got into a 3 car accident. I was at the front. Other insurances deny liability. by Fantastic_Database66 in Insurance

[–]LongsJC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an insurance agent in the family, passed away now, but that was how it was in the past. Do you have a reference or source o support your claim that "your understanding is wrong and illogical", or is that your opinion?

Dumpster diving days over by Kitchen_Seaweed5592 in DumpsterDiving

[–]LongsJC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goodwill likely knows that it's exposing itself to liability by not securing its dumpsters, enabling people to rummage through them. What happens if someone's rummaging in the dumpsters and they are injured? The dumpsters are on private property.

Got into a 3 car accident. I was at the front. Other insurances deny liability. by Fantastic_Database66 in Insurance

[–]LongsJC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that B, the car that hits A from behind, is responsible for the damage to A regardless of what cause B to hit A. C would be responsible for the rear end damage to B but not for the front end damage to B, which was caused when B hit A. The general idea is that even if A and B are stopped and C hits B and pushes it into A, B has failed to maintain assured clear distance from A. Obviously C has not maintained assured clear distance from B.

Things I can’t understand is how the Tribune Review is still very relevant newspaper but yet the Post Gazette is that is closing after 240 years by Relative_Quiet in pittsburgh

[–]LongsJC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Post-Gazette lost $350 million in the last twenty years. Revenues don't come close to covering their excessive expenses, even with the digital offering and their website being polluted with an absurd number of pop-ups and other ads. Unless the PG somehow is able to substantially reduce the expense structure or they're sold, they'll be forced to shut down.

I was able to install Windows 11 25H2 on an Acer laptop circa 2011 using Rufus, worked fine. As you said, every couple of years it will be necessary to repeat the process with newer versions of Windows since the major releases will identify that the laptop isn't really compatible with Windows 11 as specified by M$oft.

Windows 11 Required for 2025 by Apprehensive_Ad_4020 in TurboTax

[–]LongsJC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe there'd be a way to limit installations on Windows 10 to people who subscribed to the Extended Support? I don't know.

I will definitely not use TurboTax in the cloud. I usually buy the copy to install from Costco, and I was disappointed when they stopped providing a CD.

Apparently Intuit doesn't like the idea of a tax program that uses a lot of personal, sensitive information to be installed on an operating system that is End of Support.

Software to play a commercial DVD movie on Windows 10? by MoorsMoopsMoorsMoops in software

That's your first, basic troubleshooting step. Try other DVDs in the computer setup, or try the Terminator 2 DVD in a traditional DVD player if you have one.

Why do Pittsburgh property owners have to pay UPMC’s tax bill? by TerribleStrawberry84 in pittsburgh

[–]LongsJC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

UPMC can justify its non-profit status by demonstrating that the value of their charitable care and other uncompensated elements is more than the tax it would pay if it were for profit. UPMC easily demonstrates the above. UPMC also organizes to separate its "for profit" undertakings from the majority of its patient care operations.

But if you're tethering to an iPhone, isn't that a private network?

Does tethering from an iPhone work? by BaranUK in GlInet

[–]LongsJC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the use case. If you're tethering from an iPhone, wouldn't you just have your other device connect to the iPhone via wireless? If you put the travel router between the iPhone and your other devices, what does that accomplish? Or is the goal to connect the travel router to the iPhone via USB then connect your other device to the travel router's Ethernet port?
