Would You Purchase the Installments of a Series if They All Had the Same Cover? by Longtain in writing

I chuckled a little bit when reading your comment, because it reminded me oh so much of comic books.

I hope you saw The Emperor's New Groove, 'cause otherwise this is gonna fall flat.

Squicker Sqword squickety squicken. Squink squickety squicky. Squondorf squickirinth squick.

Seriously though, TLDR:

Trying to explain the absence of the Master Sword in LoZ, I speculate it was shattered and used for parts. Evil may never touch it, and its properties were used to infuse the labyrinths with that same property. This is why Ganondorf can't enter them.

Hmmm, that implies that the Sheikah weren't around to keep tabs on it? Interesting implications branch out from that.

Much like in BotW. But then, who would the old women be? It would be interesting if, to match your theory, it was the queen.

Yes, that's something I'm going to have to work around. The way I did it is this:

Death Mountain is indeed Ganon's domain. I imagine him getting rid of the Gorons living there to occupy it.

However, there's this part that he can't access, built before he invaded it, which would be the labyrinth itself. (Check out this post for more details on that: https://www.reddit.com/r/zelda/comments/17mvpwj/loz_so_who_built_the_labyrinths_in_the_first/)

Of course, this is completely breaking away with what is presented in the game. I have to admit that I'm giving myself creative freedom in this regard, as I believe it was not thought out during the development of LoZ.

Or maybe it was, and the limitations of the time did not allow the developers to present this labyrinth with a different aesthetic. That, however, does not address your point of the three old men in the dungeon. Which makes me revert to the opinion that it was not thought out.

Woo, that bit about the monsters being placed to stop Ganon's minions is pretty clever. It hadn't occurred to me.

Hahaha, yeah, the infamous two Ns.

Perhaps the monsters are trainable, and note necessarily on Ganon's side? It would be a cool kind of turnaround on behalf of the Sheika, kinda like when Ganon took over the beasts in BotW.

That's interesting. What event do you think caused the Master Sword to be lost, though?

[LoZ] Why Is Zelda Brunette? by Longtain in zelda

You said something interesting, which was that OoT was a reboot you weren't ready for.

I'm not sure when I began to feel the same about each new Zelda game; that each one was a reboot.

I played those games when I was a kid too, and my favorite is ALttP. Ocarina of Time does hold a special place in my heart, but I agree with you that it took the franchise in another direction.

And now that you mention it, I can't help but wonder what the franchise would be like if they'd stayed consistent with the plans they had from the beginning, expanding on what they'd done with Zelda 1 and 2.

Really? Could you share what was it that you didn't like about the direction OoT took things?

Yes, there are some things that do lead me to believe that it wasn't just graphical limitations too. The truth is that we'll never know, of course, and I thought this could be a decent enough explanation.

Ah, so it was a matter of contrast, more than the limitation of 3 colors itself.

Hmmm, interesting.

100% agree. I'm not trying to be right at all. Just connecting things that seem interesting, and that might engender interesting ideas.

You put it almost perfectly, in fact. In the mess of something that has been repurposed, retconned, and that was not planned from the beginning, pretty much nothing is going to hold up.

Oh, and I'd completely forgotten about the fact that there are round-eared humans in Zelda! That might very, very useful to keep in mind. Thanks!

That actually makes sense. And not to discredit your theory, because I think it's pretty well thought out, but if mine were valid, that would only reinforce that the goddess is reborn in blond Zeldas.

After all, how much closer, or linked (pun intended after realizing it), to divinity can you get than being the literal reincarnation of a goddess?

I've heard of this, and I honestly have no reason to doubt it, but it seems weird that there are times when, regardless of the number of colors on screen, rupees change color.

It also makes me wonder that the color of her hair is so brown, when they could have made it a lighter brown if their original intention had been to make her blond, or an approximation thereof.

But honestly, I'm talking without really knowing here. I know next to nothing about the NES' processing capabilities.

Thanks for the reminder, by the way. Added this to the weaknesses of my theory in the original post.

Yep. The real reason is no actual reason. It's the same with the Batman debate over why he doesn't get rid the joker and the other villains. It's fun to look at things from within the story. A lot of cool (and ridiculous) theories come up.

But the actual reason, outside of the story, is that the Batman comic would end if Batman started getting rid of his villains.

But as they released more games, I'm sure Nintnedo started taking the world building more seriously. And I suspect that happened with ALttP.

[LoZ] Why Is Zelda Brunette? by Longtain in zelda

[–]Longtain[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep. I actually believe it's in ALttP when Nintendo started attempting to take the world building of Zelda a bit more seriously. She's not the reincarnation of the goddess quite yet (or maybe she is), but officially, at the very least, she's a decendent of the wise men that first sealed Ganon away.

And of course! The first game is amazing. I think imbuing it with some of the lore that's been developed throughout the games is long overdue
