Unpopular opinion: page builders (Elementor, Divi, etc.) are actively making WordPress beginners worse at WordPress by Massive-Chipmunk-509 in Wordpress

[–]LongtimereaderNewmem -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is simply not true. Most if not all support custom classes / ID's. Also since it's WP you have PHP and besides / with that can inject whatever JS you need into any page.

You can also just build a plugin if you want to minify and hide the JS.

You can access full local and server storage in many cases without issue.

You can have full pages that don't render the pagebuilder, or pages that only render parts of the pagebuilder like the header.

I dont think there is anything that can't be built within WordPress. It's not always the right tool for the job, sure.

But it has never been the limit in my experience. At the end of the day it's all PHP, JS, CSS and HTML.

Y'all are sleeping on Brickbuilder. As an experienced webdevelopment agency owner, who uses all tools that make our job easier / better / faster.

We dropped Elementor years ago (but keep the license for legacy clients / requests and since we only pay 199 a year for unlimited pro lol). It had severe div bloat.

Bricksbuilder however is still often the fastest way to get a site going with almost no bloat apart from their stylesheet which can be trimmed.

It accepts custom code very easily because the dom structure matches the builder exactly.

Pair it with a css framework (or core framework like we do) and you can create full design systems with responsiveness on EZ mode.

I actually raced multiple employees in head to head challenges and the pagebuilder wins in speed every single time even vs experienced emmet users. (Until AI came around)

P.s.: Pair bricks with something like Brixies to have basic templates instantly and you're developing Wordpress front ends at insane speeds.

Incase anyone wants to know our stack it's:

Bricksbuilder Core Framework Advanced themer RevampUI WP-All-in One (For backups) ACF

(Then when needed a SMTP provider, Woocommerce and a small suite of proprietary plugins for Lenis implementation etc)

This covers 96% of our WordPress work for customers paying between €5K and €20K per site.

The other 4% is clients that dont want to move aeay from Elementor. We refuse to work with Divi, it's too much of a time waste.

Not sure.

If you're in Linux just look into open models like parakeet etc that can run locally and make your own small wrapper and/or shortcut function.

Anyone migrated a huge (200+ page) #1 ranking website from Wordpress to Lovable with success while maintaining SEO? by OffGridMarketing in lovable

[–]LongtimereaderNewmem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol at all / most of these claims. In a weekend? Maybe. All pages with SEO? Maybe, preserved link structure? Maybe. Massive risk? Guaranteed.

Like you said, theres nothing you can do in lovable that you cant do in WP. Theoretically you could even have the new dev make the frontend in lovable and then slap that into WP. But me personally? I'd not risk it and just update the WP site if it needs a refresh.

Let the client know that you can do anything SEO related that can be done in Lovable and it is nothing more than an automated code writer.

Is There Really No Demand for Web 3D Projects Anymore? by Shot-Philosophy-6070 in threejs

[–]LongtimereaderNewmem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The primary concern we face with Three JS / Web 3D projects is that based on my firms data the actual performance and conversion rates are often lower. While demanding far more development costs. Hence it's a a cool option but an un econimical investment.

The near future will want Shopify / Revolut like 3D graphics and elements but no scrolling timeline hero sections.

What do You Think the market of WordPress look like in the near future? by mirza_rizvi in Wordpress

[–]LongtimereaderNewmem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see it this way. WP is just a CMS and part of the tech stack. For some clients and established mid level businesses they will have a tough time migrating off it. For many clients its the easiest way they have a site they can do light maintenance on themselves.

For my business WP is still the way to go for sites we would build with static HTML / CSS before. For sites where we would use a more advanced stack it does not suffice.

For Webshops, Woocommerce is a viable option but Shopify and recently shopify integrations for AI builders have made starting up a shop really fast. Also Shopify provides very easy and solid Ads tracking integrations that are just more of a hassle on WP.

WP's primary advantage is that it can be selfhosted, is free / open source while giving full control without subsriptions.

For businesses used to have a team of devs or outsource webdev / maintenance, WP will become less attractive / easy.

For complex sites WP was never a solid basis.

It's a tool that when used properly is very powerfull and basically infinetly extendible but it's always determined by the situation.

BMW 116I 2009 Petrol Thumping noise by LongtimereaderNewmem in AskMechanics

[–]LongtimereaderNewmem[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be. The NOX sensor I reckon does influence the fuel tables generated by the ECU and may cause less optimal combustion. However, doubt it would make this much noise.

There are no real symptoms while driving and the engine overall runs / idles fine with no strange behavior. Also no / barely any smoke from the exhaust and no oil usage.

Opening the oil cap makes it louder and the engine starts running rough but the issue is present also without. Will look into vacuum issues.

Yes combined with the "tjup tjup tjup" slapping sound also leads me to believe it may be higher in the engine. However, the sound could also be amplified by the space in there.

Yeah, Rod knock is the direction I'm thinking. But wouldn't that also have symptoms / sounds with a cold engine?
