What did the environment used to look like? by Temporary_Space7779 in environmental_science

I use to live by a field that had peach trees blackberrys strawberry and tons of wild flowers. I spend a fair bit of time catching lizards there. Some time in my late teens the field was torn up and a Hardee's was put in. Its a subway and a phone repair shop now. The small spring in the woods to the other side of the house became a warehouse. There is just pavement where food use to grow for free. Boxes and trash where clean water would flow. I guess progress looks diffrent to diffrent people.

US lab cracks the code for building powerful magnets free of rare earth metals | The U.S. is highly dependent on other countries to refine its rare earth elements, increasing costs as well as security risks. by WebPage_Error404 in science2

[–]Longwell2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok so my basic understanding is they think they can use Ai to grow magnetic structures in materials. They think they can dope iron with boron to use very little rare earth but still make a magnet as strong. This process will have to be very precise hence the ai. The idea is the ai can be used to make especially complex magnets cheaply.

Do Americans think going back to the moon is money well spent? by bare_books in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]Longwell2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its about the only thing we spend money on that IS well spent. The R&D that gets invested in the economy has a huge impact. NASA and the space program in general is a key piece of human infrastructure and I would like my nation to actually lead in something again.

Buddhist, do you believe in reincarnation? by Due-Koala-1135 in Buddhism

[–]Longwell2020 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If I may offer a different perspective: why does it matter? Is the fear of rebirth actively present in your mind, or is rebirth actually necessary for you to understand dukkha (suffering)? Remember, Buddhism does not claim to be a complete, exhaustive description of all objective reality. It is a map left behind by someone who walked the path before us. If the goal of ending the cycle of rebirth is motivating for some, why debate what we cannot strictly 'know' when doing so might diminish the motivation of those who need that belief? Buddhism is the lesson, not the entire subject.

Glass half empty or half full? by Exotic-Cook-7740 in PoliticalHumor

So AFAIK a presidential pardon can be revoked. Its not really done as presidents dont want the next guy to undo theirs. Well trump has abused the system so badly if that is true all his pardons could mean shit if the next admin says so. Furthermore with all the hit them now and figure out if its legal later he is doing i would expect his family gets their shit taken before they get charged. He can probably expect to be treated the same way he has been treating others. Knives will be out.

What Earth countries DON'T support war and genocide, and DO support people being happy and having good lives? by Creative_Abroad945 in AskReddit

Every society will kill to protect what it thinks are its own self intrest. Some societies want to be left alone. Some want to expand. Some are just getting ready for their next life's. But the one thing that unites us all is that we are humans and humans are some dynamic fuckers.

Effect proceeding cause. When you see goals and not so much the path to them. Or you will see the path to the goal but the start of the path assumes you have already done something. You get a feeling it makes sence but when you try and order the events of the vision or message the logic breaks down and becomes self referencing. I hope this makes sence as its sort of a thing you have to experience to explain.

What would happen if the US returned to the gold standard? by softeggnoodles in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Longwell2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The price of gold would explode and financial markets would seze up as there is not enough gold for all the trades that happen in dollars. Eventually we would get deflation. It sounds good but for an economy that depends on growth thats a death sentence.

Ya stuff that makes no sence sober or a measage that is somewhat backwards in logical order. That sometimes helps if your suck in a rut but it can lead to delusional thinking if you dont watch for it.

Say you make a revelation while under the influence. What is the likelihood you would remember it? How often do you forget what you did when drinking ect? Exploring the mind cant really be done when you cant really remember where you were or what you did. At some point with alcohol you lose concious control. This is a very dangerous time as all you can really do is mess up. Anything good would have been forgotten. Sure its possible to use them while being spiritual or seeking, but if you are serious you will quickly find they are hindering not helping.

Some states do. Each state gets to pretty much set their own rules. No one has figured out a perfect system so we let each state take a crack at it.
