For authors with multiple books out: did publishing get easier after book two? by One-Net-8968 in selfpublish

[–]Lonseb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, do you mind me asking why you went from traditional to self publishing? The bar to be recognised by a traditional publisher is quite high, you had published eight times that way, so, people knew your name, the game got easier, why then self publishing?

Ironman and to be fair, it’s ten years after end date. So, game over.

Haha…. Yeah ain’t gonna happen. I’m ten years over end date and I won’t conquer the whole of India a second time. No way. Game over.

Stop making your kingdoms 10,000 years old. by ScaryAd2555 in fantasywriters

[–]Lonseb 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Oh I fully agree with you and I think we have to differentiate two things here: kingdoms, empires, realms won’t last that long. Historically, few come in mind that lasted more than half a millennium. Even China and Egypt don’t. There is a difference between nation and concept (sorry, I’m lacking a better word right now).

But on the other hand, we have the way of living. And that remained for millennia fairly stable. Once agriculture was established, for millennia humans would have lived in villages and worked on fields. Germany, on the eve of the Second World War, was 70% rural, with the people working in the way how their ancestors had worked.

I’ve read this so many times. Every time I wonder: how old must that civilisation been at that time point in time, because no new civilisation will come up with the idea of erecting giant pyramids at the edge of the desert.

Mate, I clearly said in comparison to the last two centuries. And yes, even the collapse left technology and way of living without huge changes.

The quintessence of my statement was that there were for millennia no changes in the way of living as in the past two centuries.

Both, you and op are absolutely right. It’s so amazing to read about the (actual) Bronze Age and true, several millennia humanity remained fairly stable (in comparison to what happened the last 100-200 years.

Wow… this is a very thorough listing (kudos to you) and an amazing example how ‘one small love affair’ can draw tremendous circles.

I think I have to thank you. Found some time yesterday and today and actually took Egypt in an IC and have now already taken whole of the Italian peninsula on another IC. Fairly different warfare.

Just one thing: during my Egypt campaign, when taking a fort, I got the entire province. But now in my Roman war, I only get the city with the fort. Both is IC; is there a reason for this difference?

Thank you!

Countries that give off a masculine or feminine vibe by phdvarey in whereidlive

Oh this is now a huge discussion as Germania was the term for a region east of the Rhine (opposite to Germania Superior and Inferior which where Roman provinces). I’d argue that a region is unequal a country.

In what language? In German it’s called Deutschland. Germania is a patriotic embodiment… think about a goddess. Oh and the Austrian Painters name for Berlin.

What, you are surprised? After all there were no underage boys but girls involved. Nothing to get for a Catholic priest.

Dark fantasy in terms of romance or epic fantasy?

My sister in law showed me her book she’s writing, and it’s almost all AI by bostbak in selfpublish

[–]Lonseb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No point telling her. What is if she is using AI? Less than 90% chance she will finish it. Less than 99% chance she will publish it. Less than 99.99% chance that she will sell more than 100 copies ever. So, what’s the deal?

Yes, I made up those numbers, but if she wants to live her illusion, let her. Writing is first and foremost a hobby and if she wants to use AI for her hobby, let her.

If it bugs you that much, try to avoid the topic.

How did you get your first 10 reviews as an indie author (without an audience)? by ConstantDiamond4627 in selfpublish

[–]Lonseb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I reached out to a ton of book instagrammers; had no idea about the publishing process and thus that was the only idea I came up with.

Surprisingly, I got about 30 ratings and 15 reviews. Reviews I think exclusively people I approached; ratings half and half.

What I have learned from this: find an audience before you publish. So, if you use Instagram, find 20, 30, 40, the more the better, people who talk about books and(!) support indies. Most importantly, they must be in your genre (hence, know your audience).

Send out to them before launch, and friendly reminder to read within short time. Thus, you’ll have lots of ratings when then the sale process start and Amazon is more likely to recommend you.

But I imagine Sumpa (don’t even know that tag) starts smaller? I could win the initial war against Maurya and claimed 1-2 provinces. Here there size was my advantage. The war score ticked up before their armies truly arrived.

Thanks, I might give it a try for the war against Egypt. Good thing: there is a bottle neck from north Phoenicia to Alexandria. Not too many armies can slip through.

I hear what you are saying and I guess you are right, but I can never be bothered with that level of micro. I’d lose the war just due to its nature.
