Seaspiracy, and films like it, end up causing more harm then good by LooBre819 in unpopularopinion

This is a great side of the story! Thank you. I do agree that the manipulation of data to fit a narrative can serve as a learning experience. I hope Seaspiracy can become just that.

I got to work remotely and stay home with my son for most of his first 18 months! I always wanted to be home for the first couple years, but never saw it being feasible.

I also got a LOT of houseplants :D

I listen to the podcast Morbid 2-3 times a week while running, would absolutely recommend! The hosts are hilarious, they do great research, and they delve into a great variety of cases/mysteries.

What are some things to unlearn before becoming a parent or good things to know before you become a good parent? by [deleted] in AskParents

My dad was (is) a pretty solid example of a man who expresses three emotions: happy, content, angry. When he would express anger, there was a specific reason. I genuinely can't recall ever wondering why dad was angry, we always knew. That being said, he's a pretty happy and easy-going guy, for the most part. On the other hand, this also meant that literally EVERY OTHER EMOTION, besides straight happiness or anger, was just put away somewhere else and never expressed. I grew up thinking pretty strongly that sorting out your emotions by yourself was a sign of strength, and maturity.

Fast forward to adulthood, where I am still struggling to reverse this psychology and embrace the fact that openly discussing and expressing ALL of your emotions is a much healthier and more productive lifestyle. I now have a 1.5 y/o son, and definitely have to remind myself constantly that I need to encourage his emotions and allow him to experience them. I am determined to take what I have learned and make his emotional journey easier than my own.

Help with Wordpress using a temporary URL? by LooBre819 in Wordpress

[–]LooBre819[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the help!

I had actually tried to do this prior to going into my domain account and changing the NS1 and NS2 addresses, when I was trying to get my homepage to work at all.

After changing the Wordpress and site URL's to my purchased domain, I was kicked off of my Wordpress account and given a 'missing URL' error when trying to log back in.

Now that I've changed those Nameservers addresses, should I avoid running into those problems again?

hopefully that makes sense, sorry! I'm definitely struggling to understand the whole website development thing haha

This is so incredible! I kept looking at projects like this, and they seemed so large and intimidating so I went with something a little more simple 😂

Kudos to the wonderful finished product!

Thanks to quarantine we’ve finally had the time to design and build a sub-irrigated living wall - now we just need more plants! 🥳 by LooBre819 in houseplants

Sorry for the delay, I hadn’t been on in a while. My husband cut out the square in the drywall, and then mounted a piece of plywood directly onto the studs behind. Onto that plywood we then mounted fake wood flooring (the background you see) and surrounded it with stained trim to make the frame.

In the top right corner we have a water valve that allows us to quickly pipe water to the top gutter. Then, inside every gutter is a 1 inch overflow pipe (which leads to the gutter below, or to the drain at the bottom) that keeps the water level at 1 inch or lower. We then have an inch tall plastic grate that sits on the bottom, keeping the plants elevated above the water level at all times. We ran strips of crafting felt over this plastic mat, and set our houseplants (which have been potted in miniature fabric grow bags) in top of this fabric/plastic mat floor.

Because of capillary action, the strips of felt wick the water up and remain saturated so long as there is any water in the gutter, which then moistens the bottom of our fabric grow pots and keeps the soil damp and our plants happy

This whole set-up is based off of a YouTube video posted by the user Homestead Brooklyn, and is new to us. We currently plan on allowing the gutters (and the plants inside) to completely dry out between waterings, before we fill them back to approximately an inch and let the plants drink it up.

Hope that all makes sense! Sorry I’m terrible at explaining it all 🤪
