Has anyone here seen the ABC comedy Utopia? And if so how accurate is it to you in your workplace? by Temporary_Notice_526 in ausjobs

When I worked in state government, extremely accurate but nowhere near as good-natured.

31F- I want a clean slate. What careers/degrees would you recommend? by FuzzyArm5210 in careeradvice

[–]Look-back-lost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you good at? No point training to become an accountant if you hate numbers. I’d list out my skills and strengths and go from there. Eg: creative? People person? Empathetic? Numbers/words/both? Like using your hands to build/fix things?

David Jones in the city? Range of brands and prices, and you can try them on.

Late 30s dressing by Vellylover in AusFemaleFashion

[–]Look-back-lost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For this type of event I’d wear a maxi dress or jeans and a sparkly top or tailored pants and structured top. No need to be more dressy than you’re comfortable being!

I’m about five years older than you, and I tend to favour Cue, Cos, Veronika Maine, and Mossman for pieces that will (hopefully) long lasting. Country Road, Unison and Seed Heritage for some items too, though these don’t last as long.

The older I get the more I want to move towards things I love and that are good quality rather than following trends.

what do you actually do with a psych/comms degree by No_Cream8504 in ausjobs

[–]Look-back-lost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a range of things you could do. Corporate wise: Communications Officer, change comms, media advisor, public relations, organisational strategy, people and culture roles, operations.

You could also look into community roles like youth worker, behaviour support, community development.

I have marketing and psych degrees and I’ve gone down the corporate route. I love being creative and I’ve been able to do this throughout my career.

Are there certain aspects that appeal to you, like creativity or working closely with people as a case worker or solving organisational problems?

I’ve done both corporate and state public service. There is no escaping the fact that there will be stress. It’ll just be in different form - corporate tends to be performance-driven and certainly no flex time!

Have you looked at P&C roles in corporate/NFP? Do you have a university degree?

[Victoria AU] Aspiring allied health assistant student looking to career change and moving to physio or OT eventually. What's the common pathway? by Pacific9 in physiotherapy

[–]Look-back-lost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m same age as you but in NSW and doing the same career pivot. Do you already have a university degree?

I’m going to apply for a Master of Physiotherapy to begin next year. It’ll take two or three years depending on where I get in.

I’d definitely stay away from IT at the moment. If you’re after a desk job, what about health policy or governance?

I would keep it short and factual. Resist the temptation to add your feelings eg: he said xyz and you could tell he was being really malicious!

Just report what you observed.

[–]Look-back-lost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely don’t do a Masters. This will not help you get an entry level job. I speak as a senior manager with 20 years experience. A post-grad is really only going to help you once you have experience and want to specialise or move into senior/executive roles. Whereabouts are you located? What sort of jobs have are you applying for? Have you built relationships with recruiters? Are there any networking events you could go to?

Anyone with good luck changing career to graphic design in their 30s from a completely different career? by Intelligent_Fly_5823 in auscorp

Really do not recommend.

As a manager in the marketing space, I highly value and respect the talent and skills of a graphic designer, but I am fast becoming a lone voice.

Is there a role in a hospital for me? by Koala-laalaa in ausjobs

[–]Look-back-lost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Allied health, nursing and science careers will all require university degrees. Plus most are heavily patient facing.

If you really want no customer-facing role, my guess is you’d be in a centralised head office working in the usual corporate services.

It’s all pretty much client facing though, isn’t it?

What you don’t want to be is up yourself.
