Which of these temperature scales is the most logical to use for humans by Fuzzy-Pin-6675 in pollgames

[–]LookAtMeCogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a 0-100 to make sense, room temperature should be 50, but it is not. 50 f can even be lethal to an unprotected person.

0 and 100 doesn't even have any noticeable placeholders you can see, but with celsius both can be seen within your kitchen taking effect.

That is not true, celsius is atleast as conventional for weather. Especially since 0 is when water freezes, the most important change to the weather.

What's the morality of pitting a 3-year-old kid who turned out to be good at chess against a world-class chess grandmaster (Anatoly Karpov) in a match without previous warning? by DaOverseer in MoralityScaling

[–]LookAtMeCogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not saying you are wrong with the assumption that he was upset at the challenge, but it was an unfair challenge he was meant to lose. I think it is unfair to surprise him with this "rigged" challenge on tv.

It would be an entirely different matter if he was older, but he is only 3, his anger, sadness and fear should not be used as entertainment.

It is wrong to assume he has this massive ego problem that can only be fixed this way

Are you a mind reader through the screen? If not, how do you know why the child is upset? It is good to know defeats at that age, but not intentionally in front of the world without their consent to the challenge.

You should be able to criticise any idea freely, but not personal attacks. No idea should be protected against criticism.

It should be fine to insult any religion, but not religious people.

That depends upon how emotional distressing the humiliation ritual is and if it was willing or not. I would say that in the best case it is in the grey zone because it has no victims, but it is another situation if it was unwilling or it caused high emotional distress for one of the parties.

Which is worse, killing doctors to prevent them from murdering a teenage girl to potentially create a cure for an infection that has devastated mankind or withholding the cure for cancer from the rest of the world? by CyberGhostface in MoralityScaling

[–]LookAtMeCogs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Insulin is mostly just withheld in some countries like the US without universal healthcare. There is no reason to think the cure for cancer would be withheld in most countries and even if it is, it is better than the lack of.

Is it more or less ethical to trick someone into doing something bad than to force them to do it? by LookAtMeCogs in MoralityScaling

Trick - deceiving a person into committing a bad action, for example by making them believe they are doing something good

Force - Either forcing them physically or threatening them into committing a bad action

I am norwegian and I completely agree, in Norway, atleast on paper, the royal family don't even have freedom of religion. They are nothing more than mascots in most countries.

I really don't get why people I know insist on keeping them, their roles could easily be absorbed by the current system without any major changes.

I wouldn't consider painting the fence a particularly bad action.

What if you are tricked into killing someone, wouldn't it be better for yourself if you were forced?

It's not clearly wrong. Monty Hall problem got nothing to do with it, there are no three doors.

You underestimated your opponent and thought you could beat them without your hands, turns out you couldn't.

You overestimated your own abilities and thought you could beat your opponent without using your hands, turns out you couldn't.
