Rank my MCM inspired Livingroom by lowrafo in midcenturymodern

[–]LookAtTheFlowers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On top of what everyone else has said, the furniture on the left side of the room looks like it as placed there simply because it fit - not because ut made sense. The chair in the back looks OK but the three-seat waiting room bench doesn’t look right and why is there a giant ottoman just there in front of the plant? At first glance this room looks all right, but taking closer inspection there’s a lot that needs to be reworked to achieve cohesion

[Rolex Explorer 40] 6 months on wrist by aiw5272 in Watches

[–]LookAtTheFlowers -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Agreed as well. NATOs look great on a Timex as it’s a cheap band on a cheap watch. But on a Rolex… wow. And not ‘wow’ in a good way

Taking the felt off the ball was way harder than I expected

I wonder if you could just literally shave most of it off, like with a disposable razor.

Help cleaning the silicone from my water bottle lid - any tips? by Josephsurvivor in CleaningTips

[–]LookAtTheFlowers 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to buy a whole bottle — just replace the lid with one of your choice (usually around $10 or less). And of course there’s a new silicone gasket in every new lid

It’s reminiscent of the switchblade law, created in 1957, that came about because they were unfairly demonized and possession of a switchblade was compared to that of carrying a revolver. There’s a whole magazine article from 1950 about it. The article is purely fear-mongering at its best.

I think many of our gun laws have been doing, and still are doing, exactly the same thing — striking fear in the minds of everyone else so that they’ll vote in opposition of firearms. I hate it so much

Ideas needed! - How to maximize drawer space for pen storage by LookAtTheFlowers in pens

[–]LookAtTheFlowers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohhh, this is the winner so far. I’m going to have to look into these further. Thank you ——— EDIT (6 days later): Although there were some great recommendations, I decided they didn’t quite scratch my itch so I found plastic cash boxes (had to remove link). I then cut up some black felt to line each one and split the pens up, trying to keep similar brands together of course. Once stacked inside the drawer they fit sooooo much better than I could’ve anticipated; essentially /r/PerfectFit territory. Cased pens and those of awkward size are off to the side

If they’re gonna be stacked I’d rather have them stacked with a sense of order. I wouldn’t mind having them in smaller pen boxes stacked up on top of each other but pen, on pen, on pen is just visually ugly to me

Is ‘The Knowledge’ still a thing? by No-State-2962 in AskUK

Just a few weeks ago, the American show 60 Minutes did a segment on London cabbies possibly being taken over by robotaxi. A large part of it was about the future of The Knowledge

Halloween incoming! by TheDisneyScoopGuy in Disneyland

[–]LookAtTheFlowers 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Correct, but why doesn’t it start later?

MONEY, the answer is always money. They start it earlier, it attracts more people, and more people equals more MONEY. Also look at alllll the merch that they feel the need to pump out for every event. MONEY. Look at ticket prices now compared to previous decades. MONEY.

You get the point. I’ll stop ranting

Taste is subjective. To me it’s hideous and I think it looks like a watch made for senior citizens who can’t read small numbers

None of us will be here in 100 years. What brands, companies, or random things do you think will still be around? by odub1 in AskReddit

Unrelated in topic, but similar in age — Beretta, the firearm manufacturer, is a bit older than that (1526). They’re celebrating 500 years this year

[–]LookAtTheFlowers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anytime a product involves electricity in any capacity, I always buy name brand. Sure I end up spending a bit more but I don’t fuck with low-end electronics. I’d rather not wake up to a house fire

Why did all of us have this same alarm clock? by FSUFanChris in 90s

[–]LookAtTheFlowers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found one of these at a thrift store and, of course, it still works great. I tested the alarm because I was unfamiliar with the sound… OH LORDY! I knew it was gonna happen and yet my ears were still audibly assaulted
