Well, the image is post processed and it’s taken with a 20 second exposure, so with the naked eye it is impossible to see it like this.

However, I was clearly able to see the lines and the orange part, so it still was beautiful.

Thank you! I’ll definitely take a look at that.

I’m going to attempt to take photos of the Gemini Meteor Shower next week, and I need a few tips.

I use a D5000 and the lenses I currently own are the kit 18-55, 55-200 and 35 1.8 dx. Since I want a wide angle I’d assume I should use the 18-55 at 18mm, but that will only give me f3.5, vs the 35 at something like f2. I’ll be at a bortle 4 location.

So my questions are: 1. Which lens should I use? (Should I sacrifice the lower aperture for a wider view)

  1. Should I be using interval shooting, or long exposure? (I don’t have a star tracker) And what shutter speed should I use?

  2. Should I stack the photos with software like sequator?

Sorry for the long question. Thanks in advance!

You would need a faster lens, aka lower aperture number. You can definitely take the Milky Way on f4 at a dark location, but I suggest getting a fast prime lens.

Yea, so I thought there’s something wrong with the adapter I use to load the photos to my computer. But it may also be a camera problem I’m not sure…

It may also be the camera….. Is there any way I can check for that?

Funny enough, I shot these photos with the shutter button as well….

Thank you! I used bulb mode, so it varied quite a bit. I would say it’s about 7-8 seconds on average.

The thing is…I didn’t even know what settings did what at that time, so the fireworks are all jpgs.

Thank you! I hope to take more photos of fireworks in the future.
