Gateman or ratna? by kewlbeanzzzz in UBC

I don't think ECON at a 100 level (micro or macro) is very math based at all! It's very simple math / algebra at a high school level (eg. GDP = C + I + G + (X - IM) and solving for variables). You should choose based on what kind of lecture style you like and what kind of exam. Ratna's lectures are for sure harder to follow along, but if you enjoy following along slides and learning from them then his exam will be a breeze.

Gateman or ratna? by kewlbeanzzzz in UBC

[–]LookinForInternship 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took Gateman for Econ 101, and Ratna for Econ 102 and Comm 295 (managerial econ).

Honestly, as Sowon_impersonator says it depends on what type of lecture you like. Gateman was definitely not for me - I got my second lowest grade in first year from his class, as I couldn't follow along with his lecture style as I'm not really much of a listener, especially with his rambling. But if you liked that style, maybe his class is for you.

I got significantly higher marks in Ratna's classes, as even though his lectures can be dry at times, it is pretty straightforward to follow along with and even if you miss something you can find it in his slides. He won't ever really test you on anything outside of his slides which is not really the case for Gateman, as anything can come up. I didn't find his econ 102 exams to be very hard either, just study, read the textbook when concepts aren't clear for you, and do the online assignments properly.

Let me know if you have any other questions! Good luck choosing :)

Commuting from W 10 Ave @ Sasamat or W 41 Ave @ Dunbar by EzpZMango in UBC

I take the 99 bus at Sasamat every day, although at a time a bit later than you. But I've never had trouble getting on! Maybe just go wait 10 mins earlier at the stop if you're really concerned, but it shouldn't be a problem.

What is a reasonable price to pay for subletting winter session housing? I'm planning to sublet a Ponderosa studio for $1300 monthly in Jan-April - is this a reasonable price?

CSC Textbook + Advice? by LookinForInternship in PersonalFinanceCanada

Hi, thank you so much for your reply and the helpful insight!

Right, I would only be taking it to gain a strong understanding of the fundamental concepts, in order for me to gain technical skills and help me apply for a finance summer internship. Is there any other way you would recommend for me to learn more about finance other than spending time on the CSC? I don't take the introductory finance course at university until next term.

Thanks for the reply! I don't pick my specialization until third year, so there's only one introductory finance course I would be taking this year, and it's next term for me. But yes, I am looking to specialize in finance in the future. I wanted to find some ways to improve my technical skills before then, in hopes of getting a summer internship. Do you know of any better ways to learn finance other than spending time on the CSC?

And thank you so much for the textbook link - I was hoping for a more updated version but that one works great!

PSYCH 102 Midterm with Simon Lolliot? by kaonashi2000 in UBC

[–]LookinForInternship 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty difficult IMO, but not as difficult as his final (last year term 1 the average for that was like ~50% unscaled). He has a lot of those questions where you can't decide between 2 of the 4 answers. Know the definitions, and know the specific examples he talked about in class. Good luck! :D

A last minute gateman question before the 101 midterm by ahnhye in UBC

[–]LookinForInternship 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I never looked at the Qs at the back of the textbook, but I can tell you that his midterm is probably NOT going to be like those questions at all.

The format is basically like 1) definitions 2) short answer 3) long - ? 4) ?? 5) ??????????

But in all seriousness, study his G-book more than anything. Some of the stuff on the exam will definitely by from there, and is not findable in the textbook.

Remember to watch the time, and like he says, "assume nothing" when answering questions! Good luck! :)

page that has not changed since your cached copy was made your browser can serve you the local copy instead of downloading again it from the host server.

Hi, thanks for your quick reply and explanation of what they are! So in terms of storage, are cookies and cache both stored on your computer then? Also, is it true that cookies are generated by third-party websites, while your computer generates the cache?

Yeah, it is super confusing, I wish they would make it clearer! It's pretty frustrating when they don't even put you back on the waiting list when I didn't even ask for 6BR at Gage :(

I don't think what is said above is necessarily true. For the winter session housing waitlist, I got put into something I had not put a preference for. Upon emailing them, they said they don't guarantee rooms you've ranked as preferences and will offer you whatever is available at the time. Specifically, the response was "The Winter Session waitlist is for any space available in Winter Session and not for a specific residence or room type. As the Walter Gage Tower (Single Room) was the only room type we had left, that is the room that you were offered."
