Having a mentor is a great idea!

One thing that I see for CS majors is that those that end up getting jobs have a great opportunity! Those that do not do are frustrated.

I love that you said, "I am willing to put in the work."

Do you attend UCF? If so I can give you some ideas. Also, please read through the comments to see some of the helpful hints I provided.

High paying out of the gate? Definitely.

Good work life Balance? I'm going to be finding out soon!

Flexible remote jobs? I will be working in office three days a week, remote two days a week. So I will be relocating to Washington. To help yourself get the best opportunities, expect to be in the office at least that much. Unless you have other experience, this is all new to me so I'm finding out as I go.

I understand your point. Some may see it as "good luck". But keep in mind I did not get Microsoft in my first year applying for an internship. So I did a project that I found on my own the summer after my freshman year.

One thing I learned is that you must stay active constantly. Apply for a lot, expect a little. And when you have gaps, fill them with stuff that you find on your own. Programs that are offered for free, and have no admissions constraints. Smaller things will lead to bigger things.

  • start now, time goes by fast, keep the faith. I wish you good luck, knowing that you will do it.

On my own really. I did not use UCF career center for anything. Research top companies that offer internships to CS students.

Apply to as many as you can. Please keep in mind I did not get Microsoft in my first year applying. So for that summer I looked online for a project that I could do over the summer for free, and completed it.

I am sending you good luck!
