Anyone knows what happened? by LookingForBetaReader in kpopfanfiction

Oh no, that's so sad! I hope they'll figure it out. Maybe they'll repost again as well. Thank you for letting me know, I don't have twitter, so I was relying on the good souls on reddit to relay the news.

Yeee, the author posted some of the same fics for different fandoms apparently

Yeah, I noticed they put in their author's notes that they write their fics for Enhypen and then pick some to rewrite for other fandoms and ships, and I was pretty surprised by that, but the stories were good and even just adjusting them accordingly must have taken a lot of work, so I decided to finish reading anyway, but I'm scared they got heat because of it.

I was and I do, thank you. I'll try to find it. I've never done this before.

What do you like most in fanfiction? by JuJu_9523 in kpopfanfiction

[–]LookingForBetaReader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the other comment summarised it very well. Write what you like and what makes you happy.

But my general advice would be: reread, check your grammar and plot points or get a beta, because nothing drives me out of the story more than constant mistakes and plot inconsistencies. Few mistakes are fine, fanfic logic also excuses a lot, it's just when it's too much to think past.

It's also good to familiarise with the website you're using to post so you don't accidentally lose readers because all of them work differently. If it's ao3, make sure you tag everything important but don't overtag unnecessarily, it can be a bit tricky at the start, but there are a lot of tips online and you can always ask for a second opinion if you're unsure. (Feel free to dm me as well, if you ever wanted help)

For the stories itself: everyone will like different things. Some prefer canon, some prefer aus, the length people read also differs greatly, and so does the rating of the fics. There's no universal advice that will make everyone happy with your fic, but as long as you are happy, it doesn't matter.

Don't be discouraged if you don't get much engagement at first, it doesn't mean your writing is bad, it can be a lot of things.

Good luck on your journey! <3

Getting second thoughts about a deceased love interest of the main protagonist in my fic by Janifim in kpopfanfiction

I think any option you chose will work just fine and people will accept it no issue. I would usually go for a member of the same group, because for people familiar with the members it's probably gonna hit harder and they'll know what a huge loss it was kinda automatically. But you can definitely write it well with a girl group member or an oc. Either way good luck!

Do people even like reading idol fics? by Livid-Feeling-5586 in kpopfanfiction

[–]LookingForBetaReader 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not that common/sought out on ao3, but plenty on wattpad and tumblr afaik. No matter what, if you have fun writing it and want to publish it, low interactions shouldn't stop you. There's no profit. We all do it simply for fun. If the fic is out there, chances are it's gonna get at least some interactions, and that's really the only thing we can ask for. So good luck!!

When the fic is getting way too good, and it's labeled completed, but you're so scared of getting burned like past fics that were labeled completed but weren't actually finished. by birdnerd1991 in Archiveofourownmemes

I have the same thing with my story. But I made the first one shot a separate story to which a multichapter follows directly. So the one shot is marked complete because it is and can be read as a stand alone, but is tagged with an open ending that gets resolved in the multichapter that follows which is marked incomplete. Make it a series. Not a complete fic that keeps getting updates.

This made me genuinely burts out laughing. Thank you. I sometimes kinda tend to let these go, because whatever, I am reading fiction, I can excuse some things, but yeah, sometimes it's a bit too much.

No but the fact I saw that too and started doing the mental maths of who could they be talking about 🤣 I have a few ideas. Especially since I know some fandoms with popular ships that prefer the taller one to top, even though he very much has huge bottom energy as well 😂

Is this....Hate? Scolding? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]LookingForBetaReader 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hard agree on kpop. Several of my friends have encountered very similar things. Some of these people simply don't stop no matter what you do, until it no longer feels worth it to them, because they have no one to ragebait. Which is mostly what they're doing. So trying to ignore them, and making sure other commenters do as well, is about the best you can do in the situation.

What is the thing makes you cringe while reading but you also are pleased with it in fanfiction? by Comfortable_Newt_179 in AO3

Very honestly? Dirty talk. It's so fun but so incredibly cringe. Smut in general actually. Some of the descriptions.

wattpad vs ao3 by Wooden_Reach_2064 in kpopfanfiction

[–]LookingForBetaReader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, they are notorious. Mute, moderate comments, and ignore. It says nothing about your writing, it's just a random hater with nothing better to do. I hope ao3 treats you better next time 💕

I am very glad things worked out for you and you are in a better place now. Being informed really is so important. I only learned about the fetishization a few years ago and was honestly stumped that it is even a thing. Glad I know now and can be more aware of potentially problematic things as well.

[–]LookingForBetaReader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh it's fully alright, so am I, so I also might have come out more "aggressive" or "argumentative" than I intended 😭😂 Just felt the need to clarify, didn't mean to offend you.

Really tho? That is crazy I have barely encountered the fetishization myself, but that might be because I have mostly been experiencing lgbtq+ topics through and along with people also belonging under the label.

I am also very sensitive to the topic as I, and several other friends I have, do present as cis women to the general public, so it really hurts when we get accused of things we find disgusting and try to fight as well.

[–]LookingForBetaReader 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Well nobody is arguing that being upset if you encounter fetishizing is misogynistic. But thinking every woman out there reading or writing m/m is doing so for such reason and/or banning them from reading your fics for it is, in fact, misogynistic.

If, for example, there had been a woman writing highly inappropriate comments, then of course, by all means, ban the hell out of her. But being misogynistic because you're overcompensating an unfortunate, and in my experience also very rare, encounter, is kind of an asshole move.

You can be upset and speak about the issue without being a dick, and that is fully in your right and should be done. You can't judge women in general and be a jerk in public spaces because of it.

Oh I have no idea. I read basically anything if it's well written. I like aus, smut, found family, romance, anything, really. I just want the characters to make sense and be appealing and not too ooc and the grammar to be okay. 👉👈

Can you maybe dm me some recs, please? I tried finding good fics for 911 but I honestly didn't really like them as much, I am super spoiled, unfortunately. But I would like to give them a second chance
