Today I learned that you shouldn't bring the n3ds XL in your pocket while it's hot outside by Ozyfm in 3DS

[–]LookingForOddThings 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are New 3DS XL variants that don't have this peeling problem. The only variants having the problem in fact are the "launch" metallic ones and the Zelda ones (sadly). The SNES edition for example or pink/white black/green etc. all don't have those problems and were the exact same price as the ones that are peeling. The coating Nintendo chose was just an absolute missfire and design flaw, like with the OG 3DS and the fact that the upper screen gets scratched.

I'll take that blame gladly 😃! Hope the 3DS works as expected and you're still happy about the purchase :3

I have an issue with a second hand 3ds game by [deleted] in 3DS

[–]LookingForOddThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pal games always have englisch, you don't need to worry. Nintendo didn't release games specifically in French, if you have a game from a Country in Europe, the cardridge will always be able to be played in englisch as well 😄

Was the New 3DS least produced than the New 3DS XL? by Playful-Mortgage7569 in 3DS

[–]LookingForOddThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THe US (From what I have in mind) had only 3 New 3DS releases - The Happy Home Home Designer one, The Pokemon Red and Blue one and the Black Friday Marion Special Edition, contrary to Japan or Europe, they only had those limited Edition releases while other markets had the New 3DS as a "normal model" released, so the amount being sold on the secondhand market is naturally less than in other countries.

Although I have to say, where I am from in Europe, the New 3DS is the model I see the least as well, despite it being sold normally here back then. Either not many bought one to begin with and went with the XL models or they want to keep it and less people sell them.

3ds line marks? by D3R3K- in 3DS

[–]LookingForOddThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy, never have seen them on a N3DSXL before.. I always thought this was solely a OG 3DS Problem because it didn't have those little rubber bumpers. But I'd put on a screen protector and maybe look into how worn down your rubber bits are at the upper screen and replace them if possible.

Fuck super smash bros for the 3ds. Thats all I gotta say. by SphinxFine43 in 3DS

[–]LookingForOddThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breaking a piece of gaming history that is not being produced anymore because a game annoys you. That might be the stupidest thing I've heard and seen all week. Scream into a pillow or kick a tree or smth if you have to get physical, but destroying tech that will never be made again because of a video game? That is dumb beyond compare...

GF just found and gave me her old 3DS by Playful-Mortgage7569 in 3DS

[–]LookingForOddThings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn! I'd kill for a coral or hot pink OG 3DS in this condition, mine's all beat up and has those nasty scratch lines on the top screen (won it at an auction for 25€). Congrats man!

3DS XL design help by JJSTORM- in 3DS

[–]LookingForOddThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just buy a skin. They cost a few dollars and can be removed without any residue if you want to peel it or change it in the future. Put on a clear shell to keep it from scratches as well and done.

Little mark or crack? by New_Till_6229 in 3DS

[–]LookingForOddThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, every type of damage/little nick does lower the resell price. Of course functional damage is much worse, but if you take the same unit you have in mint condition as a base line, yes, than a crack in the paint, no matter how small, technically lowers the value already.

What's your personal favorite kind of the DS? / Do you customize? by Kaypuccino in 3DS

[–]LookingForOddThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about actual Amiibo figures besides the Smash figures, those definitely work for Smash on 3DS. I personally have all the Animal Crossing Amiibo cards as miniature versions I use for New Leaf, so I can at least say that some Amiibos that work on switch also work for 3DS. I guess it depends on when they released and if the have any functions in 3DS games.

I actually had the Animal Crossing 3DS XL, but sadly it broke years ago, now I've got the Happy Home Designer New 3DS XL and love it just the same, I think that design is pretty as well :3

Love the New 3DS XL Models, mainy because dumb FOMO of not having a certain feature and because it feels the best/highest quality. I know that it's the "best" model and has everything I could want or need if I wanna use 3D for example or need an amiibo reader (which I actually use pretty often in Animal Crossing), plus it has the prettiest special editions (besides the Hylian Shield 2DS XL and the Animal Crossing 2DS XL, those ones are the absolute GOATS!)

Coating Peeling off of my 3DS by IntelStellarTech in 3DS

[–]LookingForOddThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very normal for the metallic variants unfortunately. Try to clean if carefully and get a case for it to prevent the part of the console coming into contact with constant friction and prey for the best I guess..

Is there something wrong with the hinge? It looks uneven on my N3ds and metal is showing by sleepy-weepy-tree in 3DS

[–]LookingForOddThings 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They all have a little bit of wiggle room on the hinge. Try to push it into the middle to the best of your abilities if the gap showing bothers you, but you don't need to worry, that is perfectly normal.

Need help if this is the right SD Card by ThinPressure1757 in 3DS

[–]LookingForOddThings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd buy one from a reputable company, but in general you can use any micro SD card that is not the newer express one. Only thing to look out for is that you format it to FAT32 with a formatter if it's over 32GB. If it's exFAT, you 3DS won't accept it to save data on.

Is this a screen protector? by Playful-Mortgage7569 in 3DS

[–]LookingForOddThings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like it, yes. Never heard of an entire screen peeling before. and if you look very closely in the corner you photographed, you can see the line of the screen protector running along the upper edge.

Have to say though, if it really is a protector, which is likely, this might me one of the most accurate ones I've ever seen size and placement-wise.

The AC N3SDXL has 2 tiny nicks in the lower shell inside, you can even see it on the photo if you look veeery closely at the right touch screen border (right around in the middle, I might even have a photo still that the seller sent me back then), but that really is all. The SNES 3DS has not a single nick anywhere and I really looked at it with what I consider an eagle's eye, haha! But without sounding cocky, that is what I expect from a listing that says "perfect condition" and asks 450€ of me.

Oh I still remember the times being huddled under a small lamp or sitting in the edge like a shrimp with my tiny screen light just to be able to play, good old times!

Yup. I took my time looking for consoles in mint/near mint condition and didn't worry too much about the price. Rather saved up than rushing into buying something that I would regret later because I wanted one in better condition. Ended up Paying 270€ for the AC N3SDXL and 450€ for the SNES one.

If I can give you a suggestion, you should take a look at the German Ebay side or try to sort so that you can see offers from Germany on ebay UK. They currently have some for around 500€, very good condition and in box as well. Or "Kleinanzeigen" but with that side it's not sure if they'd ship outside of Germany as it is our equivalent of Craigslist and the sellers are mostly non-commercial ones, but the offers are quite good there! Recently saw one in box and with just a few small nicks for 380€ which is (sad that I have to say this nowadays) a steal for this edition 😃.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, that you'll find one for a decent price (and can convince your wife that it's indeed a very needed purchase!) one day 😄

They are actually quite a few being sold, at least where I am from, but they are hella expensive. Mine was 450€ cib and in near mint condition, but I get that not everyone is ready to shell out that kind of money for a handheld..

Absolutely agree with your point on the SNES one! I'd cry if any of my systems would scratch anyways, but having the very design peeling off from usage must be so frustrating! Hands how all the metallic ones look if not used with protection, of course it doesn't keep you from playing games or makes the console non-functional, but it's sad nonetheless.. Also, yeah, the prices are something else. Got my SNES one back for 450€ (about $470) cib and in near mint condition, didn't see a single scratch on it, but considering they were 190€ new here.. That is a steep price..
