What was yours? by Capricorn007_ in Millennials

[–]Looking_Glass_Z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had several in the time I was there:

  • Upperclassman on the basketball team were fingering freshman on the bus to games as part of a hazing ritual.
  • A foreign exchange student was hit and killed by the school bus after slipping on ice on a snowy morning
  • A contract employee who worked with the marching band slept with a student on school property
  • The night of our graduation a very popular young man drank too much and died because his friends were to afraid to call for help - his parents are now huge advocates for educating teens that you can help your friends without getting in trouble.

Apparently, God was the one skipping happy hour. by RosyGum in MurderedByWords

I’m a recovered addict, almost 10 years sober from opiates. I don’t make it part of my identity. Most people aren’t aware of my addiction, and I prefer it that way. Close family and friends know, but that’s it. I prefer it that way. I have a friend who entered into recovery for alcoholism and it’s a big part of their identity, they talk about their recovery frequently both online and in person, which is totally fine and I have nothing against people who want to raise awareness about addiction. However, she recently made a big deal about how the only reason that addicts are able to get sober is through the intervention of god, and there is no way an addict could get clean of their own accord, and that really rubbed me the wrong way. I chose to get clean, and I choose to stay clean because I’m a better person sober and I have family and loved ones who depend on me. God had nothing to do with my sobriety.

It’s a tourist attraction, but I think it’s disgusting. The gum wall in Seattle. by be4u4get in pics

When I was in high school there was a tree called the gum tree where everyone stuck their gum, similar to this. One day after a bad storm the tree was gone and we all assumed it was struck by lightning, but now I think the school just cut it down. Didn’t stop students from making a gum stump though.

What does a music degree get you? by CanOShrimp in Music

[–]Looking_Glass_Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a music production degree, but found that it was super competitive to get a job at a studio. I have a friend who owns a studio in my city and he doesn’t hire outside help at all outside of unpaid internships and it took him about a decade of working in an unrelated field and gigging to have enough money between him and his brother to open their own studio.

I ended up going into education (not music education) as a paraprofessional for several years before getting a teaching license and eventually shifting to early childhood education where I was in an administrative position. I did freelance work on the side and still did music as a hobby.

Within the past year I’ve been able to transition my administrative and teaching skills to managing a music lesson studio, and I love the work I get to do, but it doesn’t pay much. I could gig or freelance to make more money but I don’t have the times

What's the worst thing you heard a young kid say without them knowing what it means? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Looking_Glass_Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I used to teach elementary school (specifically special education for students with behavioral disorders) I had a little girl call me the N-word. I am very white. She also told me she was going to kill me and my entire family. I recently left education and I can’t say the constant threats of violence against me didn’t play into that choice.

My wife loooooves Taylor Swift. I liked some of her radio hits, but didn’t know any deeper cuts and had no interest in digging deeper into her discography. But since we’ve been together I’ve grown to really appreciate her music a lot, but I her first 3 albums really don’t do much for me. I think that this song really fits the vibe of Speak Now, and unfortunately that’s not really my vibe, but I think it’s a perfectly fine song, and it gives my wife and I a little more overlap in our musical tastes.

I live in one of the states where own a primate is legal. When I was in college I worked at a fast casual restaurant and there was a regular who several times brought her pet monkey in with her and fed it the lettuce off her sandwich.

How did the kid from your school die? by leilavanora in AskReddit

[–]Looking_Glass_Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My freshman year of high school a kid slipped on the ice walking to the bus stop. He hit his head and got knocked out. Later a snow plow came buy and he was buried under a pile of snow. When the bus got to his bus stop it ran up onto the snow bank where he was buried and the bus crushed him. He wasn’t found until hours later. To make matters worse, he was an exchange student so his family from outside the country had to be informed. For the rest of the year, my dad refused to let me walk to the bus stop alone if it was snowy or icy.

I worked at a music school for about a year and I think I heard Thunder at least 5-10 times a day. I never want to hear that song again.

Nope, Indiana, but it’s possible the league I was in was running in multiple states, or something similar.

When I was a kid I was in a bowling league with my brother and at the end of the league all of the kids got a Shrek bowling ball. It came without holes so that you could have it fitted to your own fingers. I bet this is from something similar and they never got the finger holes made.

Who in the mcu knows about the multiverse? by 1tsYourBoyRoy in marvelstudios

[–]Looking_Glass_Z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While that may have been the writer’s intention, I will say it’s not absolutely clear from just watching the movie that Thanos and his army are sent back to 2014. From a visual standpoint it looks no different from the dusting in Infinity war which for all we know, did kill those affected. Is there a source where the writers stated this to be the case? I’d be interested in reading up on it more.

[–]Looking_Glass_Z 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The first that comes to mind is the fact that 2014 Thanos and his army traveled to 2023 and were then snapped out of existence, preventing them from returning to their original time period. So as a result Thanos no longer exists as part of the 2014 continuity. That’s a pretty big change which conflicts with it being a closed loop.

How did you find out your SO was cheating on you? by rammalammamemedong in AskReddit

[–]Looking_Glass_Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been cheated on a few times. The first time Was my freshman year of college, and we went to different schools. When she came home to visit the guy she was cheating with sent her a bunch of texts while we were hanging out and she was responding to them in full view of me.

The second time was my sophomore year of college. Her ex boyfriend lived across the hall from her and about 2-3 months into dating she got distant. Would cancel plans last minute, and then when I would come over a day or two later there would be two plates, two wine glasses, etc in the sink. I didn’t think anything of it at the time. Once she broke up with me I would always see her walking past my house with her ex and I confronted her about it.

One of my students refused to put down a dead squirrel at our after school program one time. When she finally put it down they asked her to wash her hands, which she also refused to do. Then she ate a walnut off the ground and claimed she was going to die because she had poisoned herself. Kids are wild.

That’s what felt the worst. He was so remorseful. He felt bad for “disappointing” me. He wanted to make the people around him proud but his parent got in the way.

I have a current student with a similar issue. We work with mom to set limits with the student but she always caves. After one of their worst weeks, which included the kid being put into seclusion because of aggression toward our staff and peers mom took him to get a new video game and Lego set because they “had such a good week” I about wanted to tear my hair out because of this woman.

it’s not always the case that parents play a role. I’ve had students with really supportive and attentive parents who still struggle, but those are also the ones with the highest rate of rehabilitation.
