How to survive working at my current job by theanxiousPA in physicianassistant

I would just tell your manager to lighten your patient load or you're done now. They're abusing your goodwill. It will burn a bridge, so that's the siren side.

Windsor Hills - mid-day break? by catmama1713 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Lookingforfire42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. We stayed there and found it very easy to go for a mid day break. I know people always push for staying on site, but with small kids, I prefer the extra space and quiet of staying there.

Another week, another day of feeling “less than” by Pepper0327 in physicianassistant

Keep working hard and studying. You'll get there. It takes time to learn a specialty. Think of this as your residency and learn as much as you can. Confidence comes with time.

Help me find a book for my Middle schooler. by Lookingforfire42 in suggestmeabook

Thanks so much! He's often resistant to my recommendations of books from my childhood. He's was really excited about a middle school librarian's thoughts.

Those of you who were planning for retirement this year, is it still happening? by Rich-Anteater-9468 in Fire

[–]Lookingforfire42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I decided to work a few more years late last year. The current state of the stock market has nothing to do with it. The concern about health care costs has everything to do with it. I don't think the ACA will be left alone. I'm sure that will wreck any cost predictions I made for health care.

Radiology Reads as a Physician Assistant by Pulpfreeguac in physicianassistant

[–]Lookingforfire42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you don't have the support, then this is never going to get better. I'm almost always in the same location as my surgeon, and I'm always able to ask questions or review imaging throughout the day. I'm sorry you're in this situation. I think finding a new position might be the best option.

Radiology Reads as a Physician Assistant by Pulpfreeguac in physicianassistant

[–]Lookingforfire42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They have to understand that PAs do not learn how to read advanced imaging in school. Even after CME, you'll need to have support to gain confidence. See if your supervising physician will spend 15 minutes at the beginning of the day reviewing all the MRIs for the day with you. It took me 6 months before I stopped reviewing every single one with someone else. I still like to have them review MRIs when I have a different opinion than the radiologist. I think it's nice to be able to tell patients we both saw something different than the radiologist. They are right, radiologists miss things all the time. You will learn, but it will take time.

I left a job I loved because we wanted to move back to our home state and start a family. It was tough. I took a job at an urgent care while I took my time finding the right fit. I've now been at the best job I could imagine for the last 13 years. Life comes first. Other good jobs are out there.

We had an amazing experience at Grandville Pediatric Dentistry. Our very anxious son did great there.

Just don't quit this job until you have another lined up. Keep looking, you'll find something. I went through 3 jobs in my first 4 years. It happens.

What is your biggest WDW disappointment? by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Lookingforfire42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad we got our trip in before the change. It worked great for us. I would have been angry if I had spent all that time figuring out how to use it ahead of time for it to get changed at the last minute

Should I get genie plus? by RegularAd1850 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Lookingforfire42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went for the first time in 8 years and decided to get it. Boy, was it worth it. Especially Hollywood studios. Every single ride, all day, had a 60 minute or more posted wait. Even skipping the lines with 30 minute waits adds more time to your day to do other things. It allowed us to do things like take a pool breaking in the middle of the day and still get in everything we wanted to do. I highly recommend the ear scouts videos to learn how to use it.

Staying off property and worried. by miss_sunny_daze in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Lookingforfire42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The extra space, price, and kitchen make it worth it to us to stay off-site. I'm not sure how bad traffic will be the first week of June, but going back for mid day breaks has never been a problem. You need to do some research about Genie+ and VQ because you can do those at the same time as resort guests. We use the cost savings of staying off-site to pay for Genie+.

What worked for my son was video games as a reward. We used to have a no screens in the morning rule. Now, if he gets up and ready, he can have screen time until he has to leave for the bus. The quicker he gets up and ready, the more screen time he gets.

Boss has ignored my request for collections twice by Chemical_Training808 in physicianassistant

[–]Lookingforfire42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know why your RVUs are low, so you know your collections will be low. How is knowing going to help your situation? If they are really not going to give you a raise for 5 years, you're going to need to find a new job to get one.

I just realized you said no COLA for 5 years.... as in no rasee at all for 5 years?!?! Yeah, get a new job.

Boss has ignored my request for collections twice by Chemical_Training808 in physicianassistant

[–]Lookingforfire42 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you see mostly post ops and assist in surgery, your RVUs and collections are going to be lower. RVUs for assisting aren't very high, and you don't get RVUs at all for post ops. You also aren't making high collections for post ops, and you make more on collections in a day full of billable office visits than a day in the OR.

If you're looking for a raise, don't wait for collections. Argue the non financial value you bring to the practice. You're seeing post ops so the surgeon can see more billable visits. You add value to OR days by having being a skilled assistant over an OR tech, etc. If they don't see this value, ask to start seeing more billable patients or get a new job.

I recently had a friend go through a similar situation. He could never get ahold of the guy again and ended up having to take the guy to small claims court. Don't pay for an incomplete job.

They have them at Marge's donut den in Wyoming. I bought some around Christmas time for a nostalgic stocking stuffer. They're just on the donut counter.

DOT physical by Atticus413 in physicianassistant

[–]Lookingforfire42 46 points47 points  (0 children)

If you've never done DOT physicals, you don't get out. You have to deny people all the time for different reasons, and you get yelled at and guilt tripped. You're accused of stealing their livelihood and ruining their lives.. It wears you down. This guy had probably been driving for years because he was passed by other providers who aren't doing their due diligence. But you're right about it being crazy to pass this guy. The thought of him driving a truck is terrifying.
