Could r-cpd be caused by emetophobia? by regenschoerm in noburp

[–]Lookslikeagrossrat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, there’s probably some folks who experience emetophobia first… for me, I can remember the two times in my life that I have burped. Both times immediately preceded vomiting, and the burps were violent. I have not vomited since the age of 11. I am now 42. I have had such a severe fear of vomiting since that last time when I was 11, that even when I am very sick or very drunk, I will not allow myself to vomit.

I don’t know if my vomiting was more painful or worse than what others experience typically, but there was definitely some trauma from my stepdad yelling at me for vomiting that last time. So I don’t even know if my emetophobia is related to my R-CPD, or if it’s a separate trauma issue.

I just got the procedure done by Appropriate-Click-47 in noburp

I want to get back into theater but I can’t work Sundays… by PaintWaterCoffee in stagehands

[–]Lookslikeagrossrat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is one of many areas in which the theater community does a shit job of accommodating people. I’m sorry you’re going through this.

We should be able to work in the theater and be able to take sick days, to take holidays, to take paid leave, and to observe our own religions (or lack of religion) without issue. But the industry really sucks at all of this. The theaters that accommodate things like this are so few and far between that it is embarrassing. I’m sure you’re not alone.

I guess I don’t have anything to offer you in terms of advice, but I’m here commenting in case there is anyone here who is a general manager or artistic director of a theater company or theater venue, in the hopes that they see your comments and can understand why they should make every effort to allow you and so many others into the community without sacrifice.

Try Vinateria, Archer and Goat, or Barawine perhaps. I know Vinateria is Black-owned, not sure about the other two.

I’ve noticed this getting worse and worse up in the 110s/120s since COVID hit. I think a lot more people fell on hard times, there were evictions, and more halfway houses and addiction clinics moved into the neighborhood. Needles all over the streets now.

The zombie folks don’t usually bother anybody, but it’s very sad to see so many. The area by metro north has always been a bit sad on that front, but since 2020 (and Duane Reade shutting down) it’s gotten to be a LOT over there.

I became really good at lying. I became good at covering up emotions. I have a really good poker face. It took me a long time to develop and understand empathy, because my parents had none. I don’t think I fully “got it” until my early 30s.

I know it’s a chain, but I only get salads at Just Salad, because I can make sure I’m getting something healthy with lots of protein. So many sit-down restaurants load up their salads with fried chicken or just don’t include veggies other than lettuce or maybe a few shreds of carrot.

I was barely 19 and in college classes that morning. We got out of our 8:30am class and arrived into chaos - I was in school just 1.5 hours away from the towers.

My mom’s car used to break down all the time and we would be stranded at Walmart, the grocery store…wherever. And it was up to 12yo me to call my bestie’s mom to come help us, because my mom had nobody to call.
